    45 ACP woods gun-ammo

My XD45 is my camping gun. It sleeps with me and goes fly fishing in the small streams of the Sierras.

I know it's not a bear stopper (but I would like to have a slim chance if needed) and the lion that I don't see will be the one that gets me. I do have a small chance of running into a pot grower.

What ammo would you carry for this gun?

I'd suggest FMJ. You want all the penetration you can get into a big animal. Collateral damage from over penetration in the woods would be less of an issue.

.45 ACP + P Field Proven pistol and handgun ammo. Maximum firepower bullets. Best ammunition for pistols and handguns for sale. Buffalo Bore. Strictly big bore. Strictly Business.

Don't sweat the web-r-net hype. A .45 acp will most definitley kill a black bear. Lions are more of a PITA just because they're so sneaky.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

California bear are not dangerous game

Let me clarify. They have been known to attack and kill people. They are nowhere near as aggressive and dangerous as Alaskans or grizzlies.
That said, a .45 ACP is probably sufficient to take care of one that decides to add you to his diet.
Your biggest threat in the great outdoors will be humanoid. Pack accordingly.

if your gun is 100% reliable with all types of ammo you might think of mixing it up ...hardball or something like the Buffalo hard cast for the first few rounds and then hollow points behind that.

but test that out for 100% reliable functioning before you carry it in the woods that way.

1st Choice: 200gr SWC Hard Cast in +P
2nd Choice: 230 Ball Hard Cast or FMJ in +P

For the woods, I'd get some hard cast ammo from Buffalo Bore.

I backpack with my 1911 all the time out here in Utah. Buffalo Bore 255 grain hard cast lead +P. On second thought, you probably don't want to run that through a polymer gun.

I'd go for their 230 grain hard cast lead loading.

                            Why not? (Genuinely curious)

This. I too like Buffalo Bore the best. Plus they are located in the heart of the Free States of the American Redoubt (http://tspwiki.com/index.php?title=American_Redoubt and http://www.survivalblog.com/redoubt.html) in Salmon, Idaho -- thus I like to give them my business to the support the local economy. Definitely agree with sealocan to mix up the two ammo-types like he suggests. We use it with the Glock 30 with a Lone Wolf (also Made in Idaho) compensated barrel which really calms recoil.
