    Beavertail; weak hand thumb?

    Hello Calgunner:
I purchased a 226 elite, which has a beavertail. In tweaking my grip, I noticed that I can best push the webbing of my strong hand up into the beavertail when I consciously push my weak thumb from under, and then up into the takedown lever, which therefore pushes the beavertail down into the webbing of my hand. Any comments on this?
    Regards.

You cross your thumbs under the beavertail?

Wouldn't think that is necessarily a benefit as it seems that that type of pressure would affect consistent shot placement. Weak thumb riding the take down leaver lightly but most pressure being rearward with the other four fingers. Strong hand thumb compresses last knuckle on the weak thumb so you don't ride the slide lock. Took me a while to get use to this with my 226.

They way I read it is that he is pushing up on the take down leaver with his left thumb thus pushing the rear of the gun, beavertail, down into the webbing between the strong thumb and index finger. Trying to ride the strong hand as high as possible.

ChappedHIde correctly stated what I was so inarticulate about. Thumbs forward, strong thrumb over last knuckle of weak thumb as stated. However, tip of weak thumb pushing up on takedown lever; therefore the beavertail (slightly) which therefore pushes the beavertail down (slightly) into the webbing of my hand. I did this as I noticed that there was a small gap between the beavertail and the webbing of my strong hand. I adjust my head slightly as well to maintain proper sighting.

I was confused at first too, further clarification has explained it better, but it still seems inefficient.

It would seem more efficient to push up on the bottom of the trigger guard with the top of the support hand index finger

It sounds like you are still using push/pull isometric pressure. Don't you find that it causes additional time between shots to realign the sights

You don't have to compress the knuckle of the weak thumb, just lay the strong thumb atop it. Pressing down with the strong thumb facilitates milking the grip with your strong hand fingers

                  Epiphany and everyone else:
Thanks for your thoughts. Will try these items. (And, so far, can not tell the difference on timing of shots.)
                  Regards.
