    The Specialist is here

    Hi All,

I've been on a quest to find a SA TRP operator half rail for a while, but it seems life never turns out the exact way I (or anyone) want it. In failing of my quest, I came across a Dan Wesson Specialist (well, my prior knowledge about Dan Wesson in general was very limited), and I hesitated on the purchase even after some research on Dan Wesson, the Specialist, the Valor, etc. In the end, I couldn't resist since I always wanted a nicer 1911 (nicer as semi-custom, good fit and finish).

When I started the paper work about 2 weeks ago, I was really impressed about how the gun handles (well, it's 1911 after all ), and how good the trigger is. Fit and finish is surperb to me due to lack of experience with high end 1911 (I guess ignorance is a bliss after all ).

Here are some pictures I took after I pick up from my FFL (for you gun porn lovers). Now, I need to get back striping this baby and give a good clean/lube.

    Chris
PS. I reckon more pictures and range report to come, since I have not seen a lot of thread on the Dan Wesson Specialist. To be continued...

Unboxing, just opening up the box (not as impressive as the SA package, but I have to buy better holster anyways)

    Here is the Specialist

That barrel bushing is a pain in the rear to removal, and the wrench is absolutely necessary as I heard from the net.

Slide release was tight, but I manage not to scratch the frame (woohoo )

Ok, I finally got some time today to strip the gun and give it a thorough clean. Good exercise too, in terms of getting more familiarize with my weapon.
More picture reviews/gun porn, range report will be after whenever I can make it to the range (hopefully soon)

    Enjoy!

    Chris

Looks like the firing came with extra stuff, lol

After numerous reports of mag well screw becomes loose, CZ/DW decided to throw on some thread locker. Hopefully, mine still works after I put it back in. If not, I guess I will need some more that blue stuff.
Magwell is not fitted, but works as also reported by others.

Definitely the most expensive pile of stuff I've ever had (now, hopefully they all go back together, lol), this is probably the reason I should love my RIA more.

Cleaning and lubing all components (spoiler, the results were remarkable. The slide moving over the disconnector became butter smooth. Everything felt melted together). Note, you probably know which lube it is, but I don't want to turn this thread to a debate on what works for you.

Now back together, and (maybe) some beauty shots

    Here are some nitpicking/attention-to-detail complaints
See how the ends of the ejector and the extractor are not quite flush with the slide? In addition, the ambi safety is pretty thick on both sides of the gun (we will see how they work on once I get to the range)

Great pics OP. Congrats on the purchase. That is a beautiful 1911.

You are on the right track to a comprehensive gun review.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I did not get to completely clean the specialist tonight, and will likely do that tomorrow. Stay tuned for more pix tomorrow. Range report is likely a couple of weeks out. BTW, I can't stop drooling over this thing either, even it's right in front of me. lol

Congrats, I just picked mine up and took it straight to the range, just lubed it up a bit. I only put 100 rounds of WWB through it, and it ran flawlessly. Gave it a good wipe down after getting her home and a few more drops of lube, now I can't wait to dirty it up again. Be sure to read through the manual (page 12) regarding cleaning. Some guys have discolored the finish with different solvents. Just a heads up. You mentioned your bushing being tight, mine is just manageable with just my fingers, but this thing shoots great. Congrats again, you're going to love it.
