    help with grip/trigger pull/firing on 1911?

I have some really weird luck with shooting. I can quick draw with some surprising accuracy. But when it comes down to it, my consecutive hit accuracy is garbage. (pardon my terminology misuse, doing my best)

I have watched a few videos online and have spoken with some of the regulars at my range(s). I was wondering if any of you had some advice or tips? all comments are appreciated! thanks Calguns.

What's the problem exactly? Are you shooting at steel or paper? Pictures of groups might help. Are you flinching or jerking the trigger? Proper sight alignment and sight picture?

Are you asking about double taps, controlled pairs, or just one shot followed by another?

In any case, your trigger press/control is paramount. I would dry fire a ton to work on your trigger control.

I would work on that before I would work on drawing from holster. You need to work on accuracy first, then speed afterwards.

lately i have been taking shots @ iron targets. from 25yd to 200yds. Just trying to get the feel down for my firearm. about 1000 rounds in. I noticed when i fire the shots tend to bend towards the left, sometimes the right. My grip can get a little sweaty and im working on that but in regards to handling, what do you think? where exactly should my index finger be placed? i feel like my index placement is whats really hurting me. maybe my lower body stance as well but i like to think, ultimately, that does not matter, just my forearm/wrist/ hand. any helpful videos, articles or comments?

edit: its pretty much just draw aim and fire till the magazines empty. When i go beyond 20yds i definitely put a lil bit in of patience in between each shot.. perhaps a split second or two. Im novice.

2nd edit: im left handed! i hold and draw lefty.

You are anticipating recoil, so you are pushing the gun forward to compensate. If you are right hand dominant, the bullet will go down and to the left. It's a habit you can break with dry firing a lot, then switching to live fire.

During dry fire, you will want to take note of whether or not the front sight moves. A good trigger press is when the front sight doesn't move at all.

During live fire, you should practice a lot at 5 and 7 yards and take around 5-7 seconds between each shot, focusing on not anticipating recoil and focusing on your front sight. I had the same issue as you, and it was a difficult habit for me to break, but I broke it and can pretty much outshoot almost everyone at the range on any given day.

There are a lot of other things that go into being consistently accurate like your grip and stance. If you are truly serious, I would seek out personal lessons from an IDPA instructor or similar.

I found this video to be helpful for some of the basics.

For me the biggest contributors to shooting improvement have been the things listed below. These points pertain to shooting while standing still for me. I do not currently shoot and move. I picked up many of these things from other Calgunners here and there.

Developing and sticking with a consistent grip for the platform i am working with (CZ75). This took a while and changed allot along the way.

Simplifying my stance, having less things to worry about doing helped me obtain more consistency. I pretty much just stand and fire now, without adjusting anything.

Really learning how to consistently squeezes the trigger. For a long time i though i was squeezing. It turned out that i wasent, i was slowly jerking the trigger. I found a hole new meaning to the word Slow.

Not shooting steel. I found that i did not get much feedback from shooting steel. I switched mostly to paper and Shoot&See targets so i get feed back from each shot and can correct.

I still consider my self a novice shooter, but i have made some gains concentrating on these things.

The above poster is correct, taking a class is a good idea. I plan on taking a class soon as well.

Total troll... Not even that original.....

If not your problem is very simple.

Silliness to spend time with an issue the poster can easily find answers through searching.
