Hey y'all - been enjoying lurking here on the forums and browsing through previous threads.
I'm a relative newbie to the gun culture, so I'm not totally down with all the ins and outs as of yet. With regards to my gun experience, I have shot .22s and 20 gauge shotguns in the BSA back in the day.
I'm looking to get into shooting handguns and to further that aim, will be taking an NRA Basic Pistol course at the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club tomorrow (and taking my HSC test at the conclusion of the course).
While I imagine I will be able to try out a variety of handguns tomorrow, I am looking at acquiring a 9mm, due to cost of ammunition and the lower recoil (relatively speaking) as I learn to shoot. I've gone to a gun shop and checked out their selection and am trying to narrow down my choices.
What would be the best 9mm for a beginner that wants to keep the cost under about $600? I'm open to new or used. Due to the fact that some call me a large man (I'm 6'6'', 240 lbs), I have larger hands - so I thought the Glock 19, Springfield XD-9 or a used Sig P226 felt comfortable.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
