    First 1911

Just put a kimber custom TLE in jail, my first 1911. Any tips for a first time 1911 owner?

I have been informed wilson combat mags are great. Salesman advised on service life of recoil spring and should be replaced @ 2500 rnds to prevent any problems or damage to slide. . .

Whats a good lube to use? Crucial lube points? Any ammo to avoid? Any good tutorials to avoid leaving the 'idiot mark'?

    Thanks

I use Slip 2000 on my slide. Just a couple drops on each side of the slide will do. Mine likes to be wet, as do most 1911s I hear. Wilson Combat is good and so are Chip McCormick mags. Can't go wrong with either IMO. Other than that, find some grips you like for it. The sky is the limit on customization there. For practical use, I really love the Magpul 1911 grips. They're thin and have a very grippy but not rubbery texture with a thumb cutout for the mag release.

Theres the idiot prevention tool, google it. You get 3 for $7 dollars. Bought them when i got my first 1911 and im glad i did or i would of scratched it. You'll get the hang of it after a while and wont need them.

Chip McCormick and Wilson mags have both worked good for me. I use Slide glide lite for all my 1911's.

I use a $3 bottle of gun oil that I got in a prize bag at a competition years ago. For mags I actually like KimTac Pro or whatever they call them now and MecGar better than Wilson. Chip makes great mags as well, I just don't have any at the moment.

After the break in period my two Kimbers will eat anything. They don't do particularly well with steel case ammo, and strangely enough one of them doesn't do well with the premium Winchester RangerT +P rounds. I've had really good luck with Gold Dots and Hornady CQB rounds. I ran Magtech during my break in period, but pretty much any ammo will do it.

Dry fire the **** out of it, don't slam the slide home on an empty chamber and keep her wet(I use CLP). Enjoy!!!!!

Congrats. I use Wilson Combat lubes and it works great. Take her apart and lube her up. Then go have some fun at the range.

Congrats! Ammo, ammo, and more ammo. Oh, did I mention ammo? Go to the range and shoot…and repeat.

                    Nice choice.

My first was a Stainless II with night sights. Was bone dry when I brought her home so lubrication is important.

Here is a quick vid on dissasembly/reassembly

Just shoot it....a lot. Get a couple of magazines. Maybe a different set of grips?

I like Wilson Combat lube too. Plenty of good options out there.

Good video on where/how to lube your 1911

Also acquire lots of ammo, you're gonna need it. Kimber's will eat just about anything....PMC Bronze, Blazer Brass, WWB, Sellier and Bellot, etc. Heck, you can even feed it the Blazer aluminum. Just don't pay through the nose for it!

I plan on getting the Wilson Combat magazines. I think I will get one more 7 rounds and then 2 8 rounders. How far out do the 10 round magazines hangout?

Learn how to strip it without scratching it when you put it back together.

I like to use a White lithium grease on the rails of mine, but not saying thats the absolite correct answer.

Also, before you go buying ton of mags, order 1 of each type you might like, and run them. My Sig 1911 didn't like wilson mags at all.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.
