    Uberti SAA Cylinder is Jamming

I have a barely shot Uberti 1873 SAA replica in 45lc. Great feel and workmanship....that is, in terms of fit/finish. Problem is with cylinder rotation.

When I load the gun - no problem. After the first shot, usually ok. After the second and subs, the cylinder binds up and won't rotate without considerable force on the hammer. Sometimes jams to where I have to keep "working it" to make sure I can unload or fire the gun empty.

I read where there might be a burr where the firing point of the hammer protrudes through to strike the primer....and this burr inhibits rotation. Any thoughts or experiences here? Thanks all!

I would guess that the cases are backing out of the cylinder upon firing and sticking, dragging on the recoil shield. The chambers may be in need of a good polishing. How potent is what you are feeding it? I have a Ruger New Model Vaquero and a S&W 625, both .45 Colt, and they don't ever jam up like that. Also, the chambers should be dry, no oil, just in case you left it oily.

Isn't there also a common issue of a tight front gap causing binding on the cylinder face? I seem to recall bushing shims being available to help with this issue.

I would think the first thing needed is to try to figure out what/where the binding is occurring - rear? front? cylinder pin?

Are you using new ammo? I have one that will give me fits with reloads if the primers are not completely seated/sunk just couple of thousands.

I agree with this. I've had hot loads act just like you described. Are primers backing out after firing?
Does the cylinder rotate fine without any cartridges loaded?
Does the cylinder rotate fine with spent cartridges (spent brass) re inserted into the cylinder?

That post link is also probable.

Check to make sure your Base Pin (that the cylinder spins on) is fully seated in the frame...

Thanks all. Good info here and on that link. Much appreciated. I'll get back to the gun again today and check some clearances. I've been using some old, cowboy factory loads, to answer one poster.

Old Cowboy factory loads certainly won't cause pressure issues.
