OK...who is the manufacturer of Cabela's Millennium SA 45 Long Colt? Looks like it'd be a fun plinker for $400.

I remember looking at these a while back when they first came out. A lot of the Cowboy shooters gave them really high marks for being such inexpensive pistols.

I *BELIEVE* that one of the Italian blackpowder gun makers manufactures these. But I'm not certain.

Actually, no, I didn't consider that. Rather shameful, I admit. That'll be my next avenue.

I do believe they are Uberti, actually. I seem to recall someone saying they were NOT Cimmarron or EMF.

I have handled one and its fit & finish vs price are pretty damned good - and these seem to be better than the Taurus Gaucho and a better value than Beretta Stampede.

If you wanna shoot a gun that's "not Ruger" (though the New Vaqueros are very close to Colt size and aura) this Cabelas gun is a good option esp given the price.

Two caveats:

1) Unlike full-size original Ruger Vaqueros you do not wanna shoot
max full-house 45LC "Ruger loads" - use loads appropriate for Colts,
etc. This gun will do fine with cowboy loads or even stronger, just
not "45LC Magnums" that some guys load with impunity for Ruger
fullsize Vaqueros or Blackhawks.

2) Last time I checked this gun does NOT have a transfer bar
safety mechanism, unlike Rugers and (IIRC) the Beretta Stampede
and the Taurus Gaucho (and perhaps others). This means you
should most always load 5 and keep the hammer over a dead
chamber.

If you can find an out-of-CA ffl to do the transfer, CDNN has had good deals on Beretta single actions for the last few months.

I haven't read any reviews on 'em, haven't shot one, etc. But I do own a couple of Beretta o/u's and they are pretty sweet.

Let me know what Cabela's says.

One of the cowboys I shoot with has a pair of pistols that are just like these, and they're stamped from Cimarron.
They feel rough, but hell.. He shoots cleaner than anybody else, so who am I to judge?
Seriously, though, they feel like they'll clean up pretty well over time.

Nosed around some cowboy shooter forums and it seems these are indeed Ubertis.

Minor complaints about weak springs in a couple (but hey, Colt SAAs have the same issue!) that can be fixed with updated aftermarket springs.

Hell, I should buy one (and a Ruger P90 45ACP as well) for a beater gun.

I've been thinking the same. A spring kit and some love, and I think it would be a very nice "beater" gun. Just wish I could find 'em in 5.5 or 7.5...

I've got this gun if anyone is interested let me know, willing to part with it at a good price. Bought it thinking I was going to get into the whole Cowboy action shooting, no time. Shot it once, I was very surprised at how accurate it was. Fit and finish are much better than the Cabela's gun. Can bring it to Bullseye in San Rafael on Sunday, have a few hundred rounds loaded. (Dan's pre-deployment party). Most repro's are Italian made.
