CA DOJ roster updated to include the S&W 686

I did not see that anyone posted this, so here goes.

The CA list of handgun models whose status has changed recently:

    Recently Added Handgun Models, pdf
Models added recently to the Roster of Handguns certified for sale in CA now includes the S&W 686 .

I could not believe that the 686 was not on there in the first place.

    This is a good sign.

All the Colt are just different editions of the existing approved pistol. Check the roster and you will see 18 different O 1991 pistols.

The OD and black Glocks are on the roster, but the FDE is not. The only difference is the color.

Color change makes a gun unsafe. Otherwise, it would be ****ing inane to restrict it from the list for that purpose, right?

If you look at the recently removed list you'll see a number of Smith 686 (and others) dropping off the list in June 2014. Smith dropped the manufacture of a number of 686 models. The one you show being added is a new model of the 686 - a snub nose in the performance center.

Since microstamping, loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect do not apply to revolvers the manufacturers need only make the gun reliable and pass the drop test.

Is it a good sign - not really, the list is like the frog in that pan of water that is slowly being heated up.

I'm not getting excited...the list continues to shrink.

Did you expect it to grow? S&W and Ruger are removing their old designs. The list will keep shrinking drastically till the end of the year.

But agreed. This isn't really good news to anyone who isn't planning on buying a 686.

I like that the roster restricts identical guns that differ only in color. Makes it much more likely the roster will be overturned in court.

Again, that still leaves the question of how those Colt pistols got added to the roster.

Did Glock submit gen 3 FDE for certification and got denied?

IIRC, that was one of our points in the Pena v. Cid case; that some guns were considered unsafe for only cosmetic reasons, such as color.

Well, my question was if GLOCK submitted it for certification and got denied OR if they have never submitted FDE?
