With the right hand he can also rest it on his knee, pop a mag out and back in. He lives alone on a big piece of property so I'm thinking the fire power of a semi would be advantageous. But it would need to be one with ambi-or left handed safety. I told him I didn't think he could have a compact for concealed carry and still fill the bill for best home home self defense but I'm no expert. Speed loader for one handed revolver? Hell, I don't know.
My Dad had a stroke that left him as a lefty. The only handgun he ever owned was a 1911A1 and he had no interest in anything else. So that was it. When my F-I-L was in a similar situation he felt a revolver and six rounds was fine enough. He just wanted SD/HD handgun and gave up recreational shooting.

I think the Glock 19 would suit the situation well with one of the sights mentioned above as a slide assist. Because he is outside of California and not subject to 10 rd mag limit, this is another factor in this particular choice. Would you advise he go with an older model Glock or current gen? Price isn't a consideration.

I'd definitely go with a glock. Easy to manipulate and shoot, large capacity. If you are going to be very slow to reload, with either speed loaders or magazines, I'd rather start with the capacity.

I think a Ruger LCR in .38spl with a Crimson Trace laser would be a great choice.
