    S&W M&P Shield for sale

If you look at the marketplace lately, there are quite a few Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistols for sale.

I ask a few sellers why they are for sale and it's the normal, going to fund a new gun or just sitting in the safe response.

Hope those are the real honest reasons they are selling it.

I'm picking up the Shield next week and it's kind of discouraging to see so many are selling theirs.

I have a Shield9, love it and it's never going for sale. Why are people selling their Shields in the Marketplace? I don't know. But it's been the hot pistol for a long time. Maybe some people want to get rid of their CA version and SSE a non CA pistol?

It's been the hot gun for a while, I suspect a few people are realizing it's not for them and moving on for something else.

The latest and greatest is a bit weird in a market place where there is so much personal preference going on - particularly when you are talking about a carry gun.

I would think it's because there is a huge demand for the gun and some people out there might prefer to buy it PPT rather than go through SSE if they are unfamiliar with the process they might be a little wary. People are selling them for a lot of $$$ so I don't think they are desperate to dump them. It's weird when I see them available for like 370-399 online but then in california they are still going for 500+ most of the time.

When you get yours and realize you don't like it either, you'll know exactly why other people are selling theirs.

Soon you will see all of the people who bought their VP9 for $800-$1000 selling them for $500 or trading them for a Glock/PPQ.

I have a shield and I'm not planning to sell it, but I can understand why some people move on after shooting it. Frankly, it's just not that fun to shoot (for me anyways). I think it's very well designed for its function as a small & reliable carry gun, but it wouldn't be my gun of choice for a fun range session.

I think the other contributing factor is that it's going to stay on the roster after the end of the year, although non-CA versions will obviously go off-roster. If someone needed cash to fund an SSE gun before the end of the year, they could sell their shield for a pretty solid price today, then pick one up somewhere down the road as a normal on-roster purchase.

The shield for me was an impulse buy. I was actually shopping for a Desert Eagle at the time.

My FFL didn't have any Eagles in. My FFL and I have a very good relationship. When I come in the store they are always happy to see me and greet me even if they are with other customers. They are always putting guns in my hands and allow me to have more than one gun out of the case to compare.

The thing is, they know I buy.

Anyways, I was perusing through the cases and saw this. Just as I was starting to ask about it, they quickly pulled it out of the case, checked it clear and placed it in my hands.

Now, I have big paws. I am a fairly large man. The 7 round magazine configuration is too short to shoot comfortably for me. They knew what was coming and in anticipation quickly pulled the 8 round magazine out of the box. The 8 round magazine gives the grip just enough length to make up for being such a small gun.

I was looking at the 40 S&W version and while I have 40's and reload 40's, I am just not into them. I asked if it came in 45 or 9. They said 9mm and quickly went to the back and brought up an unopened unfondled 9mm version and stuck it my hands.

I was sold. Love at first sight. I like how small this gun is and how easy it is to carry. Certain times I like to carry full size pistols. Other times I want something small and light. I have a 442 J frame, but I am not proficient with it.

The shield isn't perfect out of the box. In fact, this is the only gun of my collection I have modified from factory.

I disabled the CA magazine release safety. I installed an APEX duty/carry trigger set. I also stocked up on 8 round magazine and retired the 7 rounder.

I will tell you what. With those two modifications, this gun is a great carry gun and fun to shoot.

Not everyone will like them. There might be better guns available. But I am happy with my purchase and have zero intentions selling my shield, or any of my guns for that matter.

This is one impulse buy I do not regret.

As others said, some folks might have bought it because it was the hot gun at the time, just like the VP9 is now. Others may have thought they liked it and now decided they want something else.

I think a lot of people bought CA models because their FFL's lied to them about falling off the roster a few months ago. Also, I don't even like shooting my Glock 23, so I couldn't imagine shooting a Shield in 40. While in Reno last weekend, the used cabinets were FULL of 40 cal guns at SBR and Cabelas.

I see people dumping lots of guns including Glocks and the prices are starting to average under $500 like they should. Anyway, it seems like a good time to buy rostered guns on the used market again.

Just like the shields, I'm sure in a couple of months you'll see the marketplace flooded with VP9's.
