Never shot 9mm p+. Can you tell the difference from normal 9mm? Does it have the muzzle flip of a 40sw?

While I can feel the difference between standard saami spec 9mm and 9mm +P it really is not much. Keep in mind that saami spec 9mm +P is just about the same as 9mm NATO spec ammunition.

In my M&P 9C, 115gr vs 124gr +p is a big difference.
In my Beretta M9, 124 gr vs 124gr +p is not such a big difference. My Marketplace Feedback: https://www.calguns.net/forum/market...k#post54003245Comment

Proper grip, stance, and technique will help mitigate any increased recoil. That being said, I do not feel much of a difference between standard 9mm ammo factory ammo and +P loads.Bring hay for my horse....wine for my men....and mud for my turtle!

I am more accurate with +p. especially with somewhat further targets. Too bad plinking ammo is half the price :PComment

i dont notice it as i manhandle my handguns and recoil goes straight back typically.
compared to the 40S&W, its got a little more felt recoil, but again, recoil is mitigated through grip and stance. compared to the big daddy of the 40S&W, which is the 10mm, the 9mm +p is like a .22Comment

Personally I think +P 9mm has less felt recoil than standard pressure .40 S&W. I've put a fair amount of 124 grn +P 9mm through my Kahr CM9 and it seems like less felt recoil than my G27 with standard pressure 180 grain. Mileage and individual opinion may vary though...Comment

There are a lot of questions there. You can go to handloads.com and use their recoil calculator. That, of course, will only tell what the actual free recoil is of your particular loads and guns you use them in. It won't tell you anything about bore axis, grip architecture, muzzle flash and report, etc. So, it won't tell you what the felt recoil will be between them, only you can determine that with you shooting your chosen loads in your chosen gun, etc. Even indoor versus outdoor will matter in the felt recoil game. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

Perceived recoil varies from person to person. I think of recoil generally having two parts (1) the overall 'push back' from the gun and the (2) snappy muzzle flip. Some can't tell much difference, others it's a big difference. Straight physics says there obviously is a difference in total recoil. I've shot 9mm, 9mm +p, and .40 side by side in a similar size/make of gun (G17 & G22). I did notice the difference. For me, the perceived recoil was 9mm<9mm+p<.40. It does vary across ammo manufacturers.
I can also notice a slight recoil difference between grains within a caliber. For example, 115gr. 9mm feels snappier/more muzzle flip than 147gr. That said, not all rounds are the same across manufacturers. For example Federal 9mm 147gr. HST feel slightly snappier than some 147gr. FMJ in other manufacturers. Keep in mind the differences I'm talking about here are very subtle.
Personally I think the 9mm standard pressure round is a fine loading for my needs. 9mm JHP has come a long way.Comment

I have never fired +P loads from any of my firearms. I own them but do not use them at a range. Maybe I should to see how they feed and if reliable.sigpic
