1911 Magazine Basepad Issue

Hello all!

Recently acquired (In California no less) a Bill Wilson Carry. The pistol came with two magazines, one 8 round with an extended basepad to fit the pistol, and one 7 round as is standard for the frame.

Here is my problem- The basepad for the 7 round magazine has a lip that extends slightly more forward than the grip. As a result of this, it pinches my pinky finger when I am firing the pistol and is not very comfortable. The 8 round magazine basepad sits flush with the frame.

I ordered 3 additional magazines from wilson (Item Number: 47,OXCB) which have the same issue. I don't want to return the magazines, as I want to see about getting the proper basepads first, if they are available.

The Wilson website doesn't make this very clear, so I was hoping someone would point me to the proper basepad to solve my problem. Thanks for the help!

Seriously though...your best bet would be to return the 7 round mags and buy the 8 round mags, which you know work.

Not sure about basepad options, but you could try a filing a small bevel there. Just don't file the part of the basepad that contacts the front strap corner because that limits how far up the mag can seat.

Here's what I mean, the green line represents the bevel and the red line is where the basepad contacts the front strap:

Seriously though...your best bet would be to return the 7 round mags and buy the 8 round mags, which you know work.

It will be one of my CCW pistols, so I would prefer to stick to the 7 round mags.

The idea crossed my mind. Would still probably prefer replacement basepads if they make them the way I want.

I installed Ed Brown base pads on my 9mm mags for my SA Loaded. They have a bevel on the front end. Here's the link at Midway:

I tapped the holes in the magazine rather than relying on the self tapping screws to do the tapping. The length of the basepad is 1.66 inches where it meets the magazine. At $11.49 for 6 you're looking at almost two bucks apiece.
