P226 22LR Conversion Kit Issue with CA Version P226

    Hello All,

A friend of mine just bought a 22lr conversion kit for his California-compliant P226 MK25. As you know the CA version has the LCI (loaded chamber indicator) and also the mag disconnect (you cannot pull the trigger if there is no mag inserted). The 22lr mag comes with the conversion kit does not work with the mag disconnect . In other words , he still cannot pull the trigger after inserting a loaded 22lr mag. It appears that the mag disconnect is still in effect. Does anyone have the similar issues?

    Thanks for your help!

    From sigs website:

These do not work with California compliant models (or models with a mag disconnect).

If you look at the forward side the mag well (just behind the trigger) you will see two small triangular prongs on a pivot. This is the mag disconnect feature which deactivates the trigger when the mag is ejected. The problem with the plastic Sig 22LR mags is: 1. They may not properly depress the prongs when inserted do to the slightly smaller width of the mag, 2. The plastic surface of the 22LR mag may wear over time against the metal prongs, or 3. The plastic mag may bind on the prongs during ejection. Basically you have a pointed metal contact point riding on a soft plastic surface, which is never good engineering.

Not making any recommendations, but strictly from an engineering standpoint, solutions would be 1. Defeat the mag disconnect by removing it or covering it with electrical tape, or 2. Build-up the forward mag surface with electrical tape or by gluing on a metal shim with Cyanoacrylate (Crazy) glue.

I actual did a operate a plastic Sig 22LR mag in a P226 with mag disconnect and it worked fine but was concerned about the longevity of the set-up for reasons cited above.

Have him remove the mag disconnect parts (3) from the locking insert. There's nothing to it and there is plenty of info and how to's here in the forum. I swapped out the locking insert on my P226, nothing but a worthless part ready to fail.

The barrel on the CA model should also be notched to allow the LCI to ride on a loaded round. Check the conversion barrel, doubt that it's notched which might also be an issue.
        **** your feelings!

Thank you all for your responses! I will let him know about the recommendations. Hopefully removing the annoying mag disconnect parts from the licking insert will solve the problem. Will check for the notch on the conversion barrel too.

I think the conversion kit replaces the barrel and slide. So the only issue would be the magazine disconnect. I don't have any Ca. Sig's, but if I did, I think I would replace the locking insert and not worry about the mag disconnect.
