Bay Area ranges

Hello,

I've tried doing some searching to no avail. I'm looking for a range in the Bay Area that allows shooting positions under 7yds.

I want to fire at 3-5yds but many of the range rules I have read permit anything under a 7yd distance.

I usually shoot at Jackson Arms in south San Francisco which I really enjoy, just looking to branch out and experience some other ranges.

So what Bay Area ranges do you guys love?

I'm not absolutely sure so you might want to call and check but I believe the San Leandro rifle & pistol range is pretty flexible with that.

maybe not on the outdoor range but if you asked possibly they would allow it at their indoor range.

if you've never been before some of the pluses are...
its right off the highway and very easy to get to.
prices are reasonable and a portion of the money you pay goes to help the community. I wish every range did that.

you should bring your own ammo because I find their reloads a little bit pricey and they don't allow any rifle rounds that attract a magnet.

but all the employees I've dealt with have been great. I never find it too crowded for a opened to the public range but it could be the hours and days that I go on.

the one - that people mention a lot that I don't have a problem with it is near a dump so occasionally if the wind is going in the wrong direction there is a little bit of smell at the outdoor range but I've never noticed it on the indoor range..and like most smells you get used to it that read rather quickly on the rare day that it is in the air.

^^^this is just my guess, but it's possible the OP has read that statistically most self defense shootings takes place at very close distances (and at night).

Op, may as well shoot further. Anything you can reach out and touch at 25 yards you can do at closer ranges =)

Reeds (handgun range) has target carriers that you can put at any distance.

I shoot indoors at San Leandro. The rules don't say anything about a minimum distance. The way the indoor range is set up, they don't see how close your target is and I doubt they care.

They don't permit rapid fire or drawing from a holster.

I don't think it's that bad an idea to practice short range with odd shooting positions, like without using sights, and one handed with each hand. But you absolutely must keep safety first.

How about Target Masters in Milpitas? I Don't know if there is a 7 yard minimum, but there sure are enough bullet holes in the ceiling up around 3 yards!

That makes zero sense if you're holding off an actor with your weak hand and firing from the hip...i.e., point shooting.

Fair..but I can point shoot at yards too and land them where I want

Unless you are running it where you need hands on target (eg neck tie up at 0 yards) I personally still don't see a point of 3 to 5 yards (meaning what you can do there you can't do at 7)

Im pretty sure San Leandro allows 3yds.
I believe its painted on the ground too.
$20 unless you go on Sunday to take their safety test or something.

I've been called out by a rangemaster there for having my target at 6.99999999 yards, so: Yes.

That being said, I've been muzzle swept enough time for one lifetime, and now recommend avoiding that place for anything but sales. The late hours and rental pricing are nice, but the last thing I need is some jackass accidentally putting a round or two into me...
