    AR Pistol

Wanted to get some opinions about an AR pistol. Still considering all my options since I have 2 slots left before end of 2014.

What is the consensus of everyone regarding a Sig Sauer P556 SWAT Pistol? From my limited reading of this pistol, it seems to be reliable. Any known issues?

How about Sig Sauer P556 SWAT Pistol vs traditional gas impingement AR pistol? Which would you choose?

And lastly, is it worth it to have an AR pistol? I never really felt the need for one, but since CA says I can't have it in 2015, I have to consider it.

I can only answer your last question since I don't own a P556. I do own a couple of AR Pistols though, one in 5.56 and another in 7.62x39.

Your last question: is it worth it to have an AR pistol?

F*** yes, it's the most fun I've had in my life.

Ok, maybe except for the time when my girlfriend and her roommate... [content suppressed to conform to Forum standards] ... maybe that would be the exception.

Except for that, and maybe a couple related events, F*** yes, it's the most fun I've had in my life.

    Hope that helps.

Shoot one. You'll sell all your guns.

AR pistols will still be obtainable in 2015

Not via single shot exemption. I prefer tried and true "loop holes."

Those SIG's are hefty beast at around 7 lbs.
Then there is the Extar EXP that is around 1/2 the price and around 3 lbs.

Just something to consider, not recommending you anything, other than to get some .

Also in the same boat as OP. I've shot them and they are a blast, literally. The sound and concussive force along with the fireballs makes them wholly obnoxious but therein lies the charm. Maybe it'll get old after a while, I dunno.

They are impractical and unless you want a glorified yet legal SBR then not much point. Ballistics are quite inferior and you might be better off with other weapons if you need to take out something.

If you are looking for one the Extar 556 is pretty neat. Almost non-existent recoil so you can fire it like a traditional handgun. Also no buffer tube so it's actually pretty small and light. Downside is the polymer construction but haven't seen any reports of failure.

I still think they can be sold in 2015. If they are manufactured as a single shot, it should still be fine. You may not have an option to buy some like the Sig since they just manufacture the gun as semi auto first, but Phase 5 I'm sure will continue, and you can always go the 80% route. Then you can buy whatever upper you want.

They law only states you can't modify a gun that is already a semi auto into a single shot. But if it was never a semi auto to start with, then it's fine. I have 3 ar pistols, none of them were manufactured as a semi auto, they were all manufactured as a single shot.

I've been looking into another one also. I had the P556 with brace (not the Swat model though) and it was heavy, but really well built. They now make a brace adapter for the Extar, so I'm likely going that route.

Thanks for the info. Since I prefer the easy way, I rather just use one of my SSE then mess with 80% and jigs, etc. I like things CNC with clean lines etc. It's the curse of my OCD.

Get a Primary Weapons System MK 107 Diablo pistol. You should get it chambered in 7.62x39. It would need to be a special order for the 7.62x39 version. AK rounds are cheap.

The Extar is back in stock at Riflegear. They had 7 in stock about an hour ago, but down to 5 now.

In my personal experience, AR pistols in DI have not worked well for me. Piston would be recommend if you are set on a pistol. In DI AR types, I would not go below 10'' barrel.

As for the P556 SWAT Pistol vs. DI AR pistol, I would absolutely take the Sig. If you have the money, the LWRC M6A2 Pistol is my choice.

Get it while you still can (the easy way).
