    blocked mags

Now this isnt going to be about what is permanent or anything like that. I just have some questions. I ask these because i am thinking of doing another sse but worry about the blocked mags.

Do you guys avoid having to deal with high cap mags and blocks if you can?

If you get a mag blocked by the ffl and can fit an 11th round in there, what do about it?

Are blocked standard capacity mags as reliable as 10 round mags?

How do you guys deal with cops if they some how find out you have the blocked mags and they think they are standard capacity mag?

Please guys i am just trying to get info and your thoughts please no arguments or anything.

I have never had an issue with a blocked mag....So I don't avoid anything.

Never happened to me, but why wouldn't you take it back and make sure they give you a correct one?

See above, I've never had trouble with a blocked mag.

Why are the cops that close? If they are looking at your weps that closely, does that mean you attracted their attention?

What they think and what is correct are two things, sometimes different. show them that the mags are blocked.

-Wherever possible, yes. If the manufacturer of the firearm offers 10 round magazines (many do, like the M&P, P320, VP9, etc.) I will buy those instead of buying regular capacity magazines through an FFL and having them blocked.

If you get a mag blocked by the ffl and can fit an 11th round in there, what do about it?
-I've never seen an SSE'd mag that will hold more than 10 rounds, period. In fact, it's usually the other way around; on some I can only get 9 rounds in them instead. If you do, then go back and get them re-blocked.

Are blocked standard capacity mags as reliable as 10 round mags?
-Absolutely. Why wouldn't it be? The blocks just prevents the follower or rounds from moving down past a certain point. No individual part is modified to work differently.

How do you guys deal with cops if they some how find out you have the blocked mags and they think they are standard capacity mag?
-Just ask them to load more than 10 rounds into it and see how far they get. Best answer is to not say anything and contact a lawyer.

Thank you i just want to know as much as possible. I do.t draw attention from cops but do like to know the what is.

I have read that some magazines over time allow an 11th round. In that case what should happen?

          Couple options.

          1. By the time your magazine springs wear out that much, hopefully the 10 round limit is overturned.

          2. If the spring is worn out to the point it's allowing more than 10 rounds in, simply replace the spring. This will only work if the modification to your magazine does not involve epoxying the floor plate onto the magazine body.

          3. If the floor plate is permanently affixed to the body, then you're pretty much poop outta luck. Junk it, and get another 10 round or blocked magazine through your SSE dealer. Mags, like oil or air filters in your car, are a disposable component of the gun. Although SSE of firearms will become much more difficult, as far as I know there is now law saying you can't buy normal capacity magazines and have them blocked by your FFL.

Didn't glocks have issues with factory 10rd 9mm mags? Seems like the standard capacity mags blocked to 10rds were more reliable.

It's the followers in the 9mm 10 round magazines. (At least for the glock 19 mags). They have an odd non-sensible shape and don't feed hollowpoint rounds very well. I'm in the process of replacing some of my followers because of this.

Yes. Blocked mags are best fix. But also 9mm3, and even better 9mm6 followers (which need adjustments via sanding) can solve this. . All info is here in posts. Use search tool.

2183-1 followers in 10-rd mags can nosedive with hp ammo.

I have used Magazine Blocks http://www.magazineblocks.com/magent...lock-kits.html with excellent results. I can't imagine the magazine ever taking the eleventh round.

Nope. The blocked Sig Sauer P320c mags I received only hold 8 rounds.

                      yes

You don't have to do anything as it would be legally acquired (FFL's fault), but if you planned to use it in something that has a 10 round restriction (like a non featureless AR-15), then yes I would ask them to fix it

Are blocked standard capacity mags as reliable as 10 round mags?
IMO, NO! but it depends. Many 10 round mags from manufacturers are just that (blocked mags). However, factory 10 rounders you can usually take them down and apart for cleaning (they block the follower), and many FFL blocked mags are permanently sealed as this is seen to be the easiest most effective way to make them permanent. Another problem is that if the mag blocks are not done just right there will not be enough space for the 10th round to compress and you will not be able to insert the magazine on a closed bolt or slide

How do you guys deal with cops if they some how find out you have the blocked mags and they think they are standard capacity mag?
not really relevant as standard capacity mags are not illegal to possess (Except in SF which started today), at worst case such as having them in a weapon like a (non featureless) style AR15 that MUST only have 10 round mags used in it, you could simply ask them to prove it

Please guys i am just trying to get info and your thoughts please no arguments or anything.
My take on your questions in bold.

I have used their products and ran into problems, Their blocks for my magpul LR308 magazines do not allow them to be inserted on a closed bolt when 10 rounds are loaded.

Thank you guys. I have just read some horror stories about blocked mags. Some people stating they can fit an 11th round if they push very hard, although the round doesnt seem to seat right. I could still see this being a problem with cops or a prosecutor.

I have also heard of people using the mag blocks from magaine blocks and getting them epoxyed to the mag spring so they can still take the mag apart to clean but find that the slightest pressur removes the block.

Just general concers for me. I guess i will have to make the choice if i want to play with this idea.

What is the consensus if the mags are disassembled by the ffl and given to you to sell as parts to some one out of state? Something tells me this is a no no or a grey area.

As of this year you cannot purchase parts kits. Gray area would be maybe purchasing/receiving some of the parts, then later coming back and purchasing/receiving the rest of them, or purchasing some of the parts from one ffl and the rest of them from another... I do not know of any FFL's doing this.

The forcing of an 11th round scenario is another gray area. Even some factory magazines you can force an 11th round into (they need to be this way to operate correctly, thats why other magazines like the M&P's limit you to 9 rounds perhaps because you might be able to force a 10th, but good luck inserting a magazine with a 10th round). I have run into the problem of creating my own 10 rounders (while out of state of course) where I was able to force in an 11th round (the seams and sides of the plastic magazine would flex, and the 11th could be put in (I doubt the magazine would function properly though), but when limited to exactly 10 they would not insert on a closed bolt (also not function properly). Ended up just taking them apart, unsure of what to do with them.

For some guns there are no factory 10 rounders, so you must modify them and live with it.

Magblocks makes a 17/10 block for the p250/p320 mags but they do not make a 15/10 block. I'm guessing the 17/10 was used.
