Odd question about pinned "high cap" mags

Hello guys. Went to the range today to shoot my XDM 9. When I bought the XDM it came with 2 pinned 19 round mags from the gun store. Well today after I shot for several hours I noticed that the rivets on both of my mags broke apart. I did not even notice it till I got home. I plan on taking them back to the gun store to get them riveted back, but had a question.

If I do not get them riveted, am I technically breaking any laws? I did acquire them legally and had no intentions of removing the rivets on my own.

Just asking for ****s and giggles. I plan to get them riveted again to avoid any issues. Thanks

Are they blocked and then riveted to prevent them from being opened? As in, are they still only able to hold 10 rounds?

LOL. Your intent doesn't matter. Well, it does but its generally only considered during the sentencing phase.

Permanence has really been defined by the CA DOJ but if you want to be the test case then feel free. I'd probably just put a little epoxy on the floor plates and call it good though. OR did they actually rivet the mag body to block it down to 10rds?

It had a rivet through one of the bullet count indicator holes. The floor plate was always removable. I opened the floor plate and the rivet just fell off. I would now have a "high cap" mag if I were to reassemble them again .

Well, to be blunt, you are now in violation of the law. It doesn't matter that you didn't mean to have a full capacity mag - you do. Just as it doesn't matter if you intended to drive 15 miles over the speed limit - if you do and get caught, you get a ticket.

Call the vendor that did the conversion to the mags and ask for assistance...and in the meantime, consider carefully wording any future posts on the topic.

Possession is not illegal. Unless the OP lives in San Francisco or Sunnyvale.

About the only way I could see it being a problem is if someone defines this as manufacturing or modifying. Although the argument could be made that you did not intentionally manufacture or modify the mag.

Yup that's what I figured. Like I said, I plan on getting them riveted back as soon as possible. Thanks guys

Perhaps consider epoxying the floor plates if you're concerned about 'permanence'. Did the mags bind at all with the rivet in the mag body? Seems like a far from ideal solution so I'd recommend getting mag blocks as they shouldn't break as easily.

When I opened the floor plate a small, short rivet fell out. Looks like it was just there to prevent the follower from going down past a certain point.

I threw the small rivets away, I can take pics of the mags and show were the rivets were.

Okay, I'm missing something here. OP bought CA legal 10 round capacity magazines that are now capable of holding more than 10 rounds. These are not pre-ban magazines. Explain to me how that's not a problem.

Weird situation, but nothing illegal transpired, and I wouldn't imagine the circumstances being construed as manufacturing a standard capacity magazine.

Personally, I'd have said nothing at all. Have to wonder about these threads sometimes.
