Having read about good/bad/whatever customer service from Smith&Wesson I thought I'd share my experience. While I know I have said I will never get an M&P Shield, I lied. My M&P Pro and 40C needed company.
I got it out of jail on Friday and disassembled it for a thorough cleaning. Not sure what ammo it was test fired with but there was powder residue in the barrel. After cleaning and lubing, the slide did not go far enough back for the slide stop to engage. I double checked the RSA alignment and tried again. After several attempts, I called S&W. After 3/4 minutes a tech asked what I needed. I explained what I had done and he said the new Shields are very tight and to slam the slide back, you cannot hurt it. OK....... I muscled it back and the slide stop was engaged.
I loaded up a magazine, stepped out the back and emptied the 9MM into the dirt bank. All worked as designed. I disassemble the gun, ran a patch through the barrel. As I placed the RSA in position I could not believe my eyes. The face of the assembly was bent and the flat wound spring end was not in the grove. In the back of my mind I heard "you cannot hurt it".
First thing this AM I called S&W and was picked up in less than 30 seconds. I explained to "Tom" about my discussion on Friday and what I subsequently found. Without further comment "Tom" asked for my address and said a new RSA would be in my hands in 7-9 days.
Assuming the part arrives in the time frame given, customer service was excellent, information put out by a certain Tech was questionable.
