    What's up with my shield?

No jams but many times after the last round it doesn't lock. I don't think it's the magazine because when I pull the slide back to lock it my self, the slide release it tough. Tougher than any of my other M&Ps or 1911s. Could it be a bad side release?

Shoot a few "last rounds" from your left hand. If the gun is working fine, then you simply override the ***slide*** release lever.

your right thumb is probably resting on the slide release. this is common. do what ^ guy said, or simply take your thumb and rest it on your left hand when shooting and watch that slide lock back

Damn I forgot to mention that. I knew people were going to say this but this isn't the problem. The slide release is flush to the frame so this isn't it.

That still doesn't explain as to why it is more difficult to lock it back manually than any of my other handguns.

It's difficult to lock back because what the slide lacks in mass it makes up for recoil spring tension. Your most likely riding the slide stop even if its slightly recessed that doesn't make it impossible.

Is it pretty new? Mine did that a couple of times the first hundred rounds. After the recoil spring softened up just a bit it never did it again. I'm assuming it''s kept cleaned and lubed. The recoil spring will soften up noticeably after 300-400 cycles. When mine was new I racked the slide manually 50 times a day for 5 days and left it locked open all 5 days.

This is common with Shields. It took mine about 400 rounds before it loosened up.

happens to me too, just be mindful of keeping your thumb off of it.

it is still new. I don't think I've shot more than 300 rounds.

Just so you know, leaving the slide locked back doesn't weaken the spring. Raking the slide does however.

Along with the stiff spring mentioned above, you have to pull the slide back farther than it looks like you should have to. Pull back to where it feels natural to stop, then keep pulling...

My guess is also that you're riding the release. I'm guilty of doing this on my BG380. It's a smaller gun, but the layout is almost exactly the same as the shield. As said above, load a couple mags with one round, be conscious of where your thumb is, and see if the slide locks back then.

There's at least 5 threads about this already.

These all look different from the titles, but I believe they're all related.
