1911 MSH question

As seen in my other post i converted my SA 1911 with the locking magwell to a nice checkered magwell housing and 19lb spring.

After putting it together i noticed i might have forgot a part (it went together and seems to dry fire fine without it.

I am by no means a 1911 expert and wanted to find out the right answer before shooting the gun.

I removed the SA MSH with the tool from SA used to hold the cap/spring down so it can be removed. I used the tool again to hold the cap/spring down when reinstalling the new housing.

should i get one or can i be without it? What is the true purpose of it and why doesnt SA use it on their locking MSH??

that keeps the spring and mainspring cap inside the mainspring housing when removing the main spring or hammer/hammer strut.

Its not needed to work but is needed for convience when working on the 1911.

The locking MSH probably replaces this pin with the lock to keep the spring from moving and thust the hammer from droping.

I did noticed all the wilson combats i saw today in their ready to go format had the pin installed.
