    Glock Experts Chime In Please

    Hi all.

I'm 99% set on selling one of my Kimbers to fund a Glock 29. So this puts me in a bit of a dilema.

Do I do a Gen3 sf or go the SSE route for the Gen4?

    Pros and cons please.

Well my buddy had nothing but problems with his Gen4, Glock ended up giving him a new gen3 for the gen 4 and two BL discounts for future guns.

Is there a feature on the Gen 4 model that you really want? If not, go with the proven, more affordable, and more readily available Gen 3.

Not particularly I guess. I have several Gen3 models and was maybe thinking about mixing things up and seeing what I'm missing but not up to date on any issues with gen4 g29's.

I decided to go with the Gen 3 and I'm happy with it. I find that there are more parts available for the Gen 3. You will most like save a few bucks if you go that route. I have owned both, & there isn't really much noticeable difference between the Gen 3 vs the Gen 4 other than the removable back straps. I used the medium sized backstrap on the Gen 4, which is equivalent to the size of the Gen 3 grip so I didn't notice a difference. The texturing is a bit more aggressive on the Gen 4, but if you plan on adding grip tape or stippling, then that won't matter. Trigger work is easier on the Gen 3 from what I've been told. They are just so similar you can't go wrong either way. I would recommend to buy what's available and cheapest. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to buy a Gen 4 over a Gen 3.

That's because Glock couldn't send a new Gen4 to CA?

I've not had any issues with any of my three gen 4 9mm's one has around 16k rounds through it and I haven't had a single hiccup. So there you have it my sample size of 3 having no issues and then others having issues.

The reason I like the Gen 4's is the grip doesn't require any modifications the size and texture is just about perfect. A gen 3 in 10mm is going to feel like your welding a brick the Gen 4 will almost guarantee a better fit in your hand. Coming from a 1911 platform you might appreciate it.

The issues with the Gen 4's was from my understanding was isolated only to the 9mm's early on.

I personally prefer Gen 4 for the improved grip and bigger mag release. The new recoil spring and extra mag were gravy. The Gen 4 mag release button is a huge improvement over Gen 3. That being said, of all the Gen 3's, the G20 mag release is pretty damn good. For some reason I hate the buttons on the smaller frames, but like it on the large frame. I still prefer Gen 4 though.

this isn't scientific but I've noticed more people complaining on line about their problems with the gen 4.
the gen 3 guns have been around longer and there's more of them out there so you would expect to hear about, at least the same amount of problems but that's just not the case.
I've also noticed that some people who do custom workprefer the gen 3 models and as noted above there seems to be more aftermarket parts available for gen 3s.
so unless the grip shape is make it or break it for you I'd say go gen 3. &
you're going to save the SSE costs.

                    just my unscientific two cents.

                      Q. What happens when a 1911 owner, switches over to Glock?

                      A. It raises the aggregate IQ of BOTH groups of owners...

Your going to sell a Kimberly for a glock? I have a bunch of glocks which I like, but they are throw away guns. Very fun to mod, drop the trigger pull, stimple the grip, change out the slide release (it's a must), a few good barrel options, but Kimber's with at least the 5 inch barrel are great shooters and can be modded to the hilt.
