I used a pair of channel locks to get the plate to start sliding while I pushed in the button on the bottom

I tried some taped up vice grips with no luck. Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'll invest the $12 on the Gtul since I now have quite a few Glock magazines. If it makes the process easier, it will be worth it for me.

With all the good suggestions, hopefully this thread can help anyone else with the same problem.
So um... moon labia or something.

Heat the baseplates up with a propane lighter....

Try to take the glock punch tool and push it all the way down . When the tool is all the way in lay the body on the edge of a table and crank down on the handle. This was how the awesome glock armourer did it today for me at GSSF.

He also showed a prototype tool that looked like a bottle opener that disassembles mags also.

I've never needed anything more than a Glock tool or any punch you can stick about 2-3" inches into the baseplate hole will do.

So push the Glock tool ALL THE WAY into the magazine.

Then grab the handle of the Glock tool while you push your thumb against the mag body and squeeze in the appropriate direction obviously. Takes about 10 seconds per magazine.

If you look down alongside the body of the magazine body toward the floor plate, you'll see a tongue and groove/notch and tab. This, along with the magazine insert, retains the floor plate in position.

Depress and unseat the magazine insert with a 5/32" punch or a similar tool. Compress the side of the magazine body nearest to the tongue and groove/notch and tab - this can be accomplished by using your hand, pliers or with the GTUL tool. Push the floor plate against on a solid surface to assist in the removal process.

When using pliers or similar tools, I adjust the tool so that minimal compression is needed to pop the floor plate. If you wish, apply tape to the jaw to prevent marring. Good luck.
