I bought one from dvor.com, but I haven't installed it yet.

I have had one for about 3 months.. it is mounted in the knee hole of my desk at work. it opens every time and fits my 92FS very well.. a really small carry gun might get lost in the size of the safe...

Yes. FAS 1, check them out. No batteries or keys, stronger steel, outstanding hand gun safe. Different sizes for larger guns too.

I have the biometric clamshell one for bedside and the vertical type for the family room but non-biometric/push button.

The biometric fingerprint reader is angle dependent in that if you swipe your finger differently, like if you are standing next to it, or lying down in bed, it will not recognize the fingerprint. Fortunately it can store a huge number of fingerprints, so when you train it, swipe it multiple times from different angles (and use different fingers in case you have a cut), so in an emergency, it recognizes at least one swipe. Be sure to train it for others in your household, like your wife or GF, if you want them to be able to access the GunVault.

The vertical pushbutton one is a battery hog, unlike my clamshell type. 9V batteries don't last a year. I change it every 4 months, because too often it went dead on me when I need it to open.

BTW, the push button SpeedVault, the SV500 can go as cheap as $99 at the right time, and you can often pick them up for $130 if you wait:

Yes, I have one bolted to the inside of the coat closet door right by the front door. Very reliable reader, works great, fast opening puts handgun in hand NOW.

Do you guys just mount them to the studs in the wall when putting them in your closet?

I wonder if I should upgrade from my regular old gunvault before I go drilling into my wall.

The hardest part about owning these things is mounting them to something.

I have a Barska biometric and am in and out of it pretty frequently. I am perfectly happy with it for the price. I don't think of it as my primary safe, which it's not, but something to keep the kids out of that's easily accessed.

It is lag bolted to the studs. Pretty simple installation.

I'll throw in a third vote for the Fort Knox Pistol Box. It's built like a tank and has a mechanical simplex style lock which from what I've read is better than a battery powered, electronic lock. It would suck to need your firearm in the middle of the night, go to your safe and find a dead battery. This is the best price I've found on the Fort Knox -
