    XD9 Tactical vs. Glock 34 Gen 3

So I have researched the Glock 34 to the most extreme extent. There is so much information on this pistol, mostly positive results. The one negative is the grip angle, and to me personally is the slide to frame fitment, but it is just how the slide fits on the rails. Not much information on the XD tactical version which surprised me. Do people not like this pistol? The XD feels better in hand but I have never shot the 5 inch version. Can you guys give me your experiences and recommendations on both (reliability, trigger, fit and finish, overall handling)?

The XD is cheaper and comes with the gear along with a special promotion from Springfield with any purchase of an XD, you get 3 extra magazines and a mag pouch.

The Glock is quite a bit more in price and currently does not have any promotions.

The XD9 tactical 5" is a fine shooting pistol.
Very comfortable to shoot and a nice sight radius.
I too like the fit and feel of the XD series pistols over the Glock pistols.
Better grip angle on the XD and the Glock feels like a 2x4.
The XD just seems more solid of a gun to me.

I really like my XD tactical. It shoots fine, and I have had no issues with it that could be attributed to the gun, and not the shooter. Planning to upgrade the sights eventually, and maybe put in a PRP trigger kit, but it is a fine gun as-is.

I have a g34 and a xd tactical in .45. Research how hard it is to change the sights on a xd. I would take the glock over an xd. Much more after market support for glocks.

The XD has been produced since 1999, and since it's still being made, I would guess it's selling okay for Springfield to continue to do so.

Glock still dominates pistol sales, so no need for a price drop, just their MAP pricing. If you like a better price than that, they do have GSSF or Blue Label pricing. There is the October free hat or bag thing, but that is nothing like 3 magazines.

Although true the XD does not have the amount or aftermarket like Glock, realistically how much does one person really need. If sights are changed, they are usually done once, and not impossible with proper sight pushers, or let a smith do it. Trigger kit/upgrade, PRP, Springer, and even Springfield themselves have you covered.

For sure rent them...maybe you will actually like the Glock more.
Pros and cons to both, really is user preference...or just get both .

My XD feels better in my hands yet for some reason I shoot my Glocks way better. That's what I've never understood telling people to go handle both. Holding them doesn't really tell you that much. Shooting them both will.

The XD is really a solid built pistol. Feels more solid to me than a Glock. You really can't go wrong with either. I have a very old XD9. First gen. Flawless in thousands of rounds. The trigger feels amazing. It's so worked in. I still prefer Glocks, but the XD does rock.

Thank you for all the input. I haven't found a range to fire the xd tactical version but I have shot the glock, and the grips are a lil wide but manageable. I did have to adjust my hold to accommodate the grip angle. Coming from a 1911, the xd feels good in hand.

I just picked up a used XD Tactical 9mm and I really like it. I have not shot the G34 but have shot several other Glocks and I own a G30. I personally prefer the XD because the ergos work much better for me. I also have a XDM 5.25 9mm that is the most accurate pistol I own. My XDM 5.25 45 just arrived at my FFL this week. If you are really on the fence I would lean toward the side with $100+ of bonus goodies. These aren't free stickers and hats, they're giving you the one thing they know you'll need. As for aftermarket options there are great drop in triggers and after market sights. What more do you need? You'll be good on mags

Another thing to consider is Springfield's legendary Custom Shop. You can send in your XD (or most any other pistol-1911's especially) for customization and work. They also will attach the same warranty to their upgrades too. Their warranty and customer service is legendary in the industry.

I dig the XD/XDM, but the shape of the backstrap just doesn't fit my hand 100%. (It bumps up against my thumb-knuckle).

                    Happy shooting and be safe.

Appreciate the info XDJYo. Another question, is the XD9 Tactical just a longer version of the service model, unlike the XDm 5.25 which is a match grade version of the XD series?

I've shot both. My primary competition pistol is an XD Tactical, while my wife's is a Glock 34.

The XD is more top-heavy than the G34, with also more front-end weight. I actually like this, since it seems to drive the sight back on target nicely.

The Glock's barrel is closer to your hand than the XD, which results in less perceived recoil rotation than the XD. But for me, the XD is such a better fit for my hand than the Glock, that I drive the XD better in competition.

The Glock is a dream to work on. Lots of after-market parts. The XD has less available, but there is still quite a bit out there. As you will read if you research, the XD sights are an absolute nightmare to get out of their dovetails. You'll probably need a gunsmith to change the sights.

Its a great gun imo.Never shot the G34 so cant comment.

killnjoke- your collection is great! The xd was a pleasure to shoot. I shot a glock and it was slightly different, but they were both good.
