Revolver newb- .44 for range fun

My first handgun purchase 6 years ago was a GP100 4".
Have bought many different semis since but that still is my only revolver, and I love it- strictly range use- accurate as heck, built like a tank and the rubber grips mold in my hands.

Always thinking semis for new purchase but think I'm semi'd out for a bit so figured I'd switch things up and get a .44 magnum.

Reasons for use- just a fun range plinker. Given my love for my 4" GP100, any recommendations would be much appreciated since I know nothing about the various revolver options out there and only have been focused on semis past 5 years. Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

Don't want to SSE and cost not serious issue- say anything below $1k

Or as previous poster said a blackhawk will keep the cost down but seriously fun guns.

Thank you for the replies. I bought a Desert Eagle few yrs ago and yes it's a smooth shooter, but I want to go the revolver route as I only have one right now- my GP 100.

Since no SSE, is the SW 629 on the roster? Any suggestions on where to find one in the LA area? Thank you.

you should start with a 6" RCBS rock crusher...then get the gun.

Exactly, .44 Mag ammo is expensive. I just got my Dies to reload for it myself or I would have never shot it.

I love my Raging Bull. 100% flawless so far. But you'd better hurry if you want one. Unless Taurus renews, it'll fall off the roster on the 28th.

Double action Ruger Redhawk with 4 or 5-1/2" barrel (Not the Super). After being very hard to find, they ran a production recently. On roster too. This thing is a beast. Super Blackhawk is too, but that is single action. I would not get the Alaskan for your first.

But as another said, learn to reload. It is expensive ammo. So is .44 Special, which it will also shoot. It's a reloader's caliber unless you have money to burn. And even then, you will miss out on the ability to vary the power of the cartridge.

A Ruger single action such as the Super Blackhawk will be a nice one. It is accurate and built to last.

Single action for a range toy. Double action for large critter protection. I have both and I don't fire the heavy loads in double action very often. Nice to have the double action if you're being attacked.
Plenty of single action Ruger 44's on the used market, cheaper as well.

Have you considered .41 magnum? I have shot this caliber in a Ruger Redhawk and liked it much better than the .44 mag.
If you wanted Single Action, you should also consider the .45 LC. Maybe a Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero.
                              Good luck.
