    HK VP9 problem

So I got a chance to put my new VP9 through the paces over at the range. I started with 100 rounds of WWB, 100 rounds of my range's random 9mm reloads, and finished with 100 rounds of 124 grain rangers.

And... 0 failures. The pistol ran perfectly. It was really enjoyable, and refreshing to not have to wear a hat to protect myself from random brass ejections to the face.

I did have 1 problem. The medium backstrap on my gun does not seat correctly, and there is movement near the top of the handle slot. No issues with the small or large backstrap, other then the fact that they aren't my size.

I contacted HK service, and was told they didn't have any replacements, and that since everything was allocated to production units in an effort to meet demand, I'd be out of luck for any replacement for at least 2-3 months.

Anybody know of a place I can buy a medium backstrap? Anybody willing to sell me theirs? Or let me have theirs until HK sends me a new one, which I can then send to them?

Help a brother out fellow Calgunners =D

HK putting production over customer service and making an existing customer happy....sounds like a company I wouldn't like to give money to.

I'm honestly not that upset with them; it's a small plastic piece that isn't vital to function, and they did say they'd get one to me as soon as they could.

HK: because you suck and we hate you.

They honestly couldn't push one button on their plastic making machine and just make a new part for you? Is this magical polymer made out of unobtainium?

They aren't 3D printed. They're injection molded. Tooling is usually done in sets, not individual parts.

I didn't really post this for all the HK bashers to tee off on my problem. Do I wish HK USA had replacement parts in stock? Obviously yes. Do I think it's a huge deal that since it's not a function issue HK USA needs to put my problem on the back burner for a little bit so they can try to meet demand? No.

I'm hoping someone here isn't using their medium back strap and can mail me theirs for a couple months until I can just replace it with one from HK. It's not a huge issue guys.

It's interesting that it's the medium strap that does not fit right, since that is the one that come on the gun when you purchase. It should not have passed QC when it's the one mounted to it when you pick it up....

Looks like a fellow calgunner already said he was willing to help. In the meantime a section of bicycle inner tube or tape can probably help with the wiggly blackstrap until HK sends you a replacement!

Yeah, it wasn't really noticeable until after the first 50 rounds or so, that's when I switched the grips to my usual P30 set up of small side panels with the medium back strap. After a few more rounds the problem became really apparent, and I switched to the small back strap to avoid any scenario where the movement might cause more issues.

Correct. High cost and vol manufacturing isn't so simple..it's automated now and not really worth making one off changes to the process.

If your name was Larry Vickers, a brand new grip piece (maybe a whole new set) would be over-nighted to you and the hand delivered by a local HK rep.
