XD-S 3.3″ 9mm or 45?

Not sure which one to buy?
Am indifferent on this one.
Anyone have both? Pro's / con's?
Am leaning .45 but have no problem with either.

9mm is slightly heavier, does fine with most ammo selection
45 you will need to test your ammo if carrying, federal hst and hornady crit defense are proven in such a short barrel
these are not target guns, that being siad 45 can eat your hands a little at the range.
my exp with the 45 is needs some breaking in, but has been utterly reliable, eats ammo my 1911 wont stomach

I have the 45 version. It eats your strong side, hand webbing. Great gun that eats everything I've fed it. I love the idea of a .45ACP in a pocket pistol. This is my EDC.

barrel diameter is the same for both, but 9mm barrel is thicker due to smaller caliber, so the 9mm barrel is heavier. externally, the two guns appear identical.

I have (and have only shot) the 9mm and I'll be the first to admit that for its intended purpose it is a great gun, but it's not 'fun' to shoot at the range after about 50-75 rounds. As Nate mentioned the grip texture is pretty aggressive and it starts to wear on my hand. I imagine the .45 would be pretty rough.
I don't think the extra 1.5 oz is a big deal, and I'd personally rather have the 2 extra rounds (.45 carries 5, 9mm carries 7) in the flush magazine.
When it's all said and done shot placement is key with either.

I just read that in a review, makes sense.
Will probably get the 45. I have a Shield in 9mm & 30s but not a single stack 45. It would be slick if they offered a kit that allowed you to swap out to the other cal. (Barrel, spring & mag) They would sell less guns though, so I guess we shouldn't wait for that. Is there any mechanical differences that would make a conversion a problem? Just thinking out loud.

more rounds is better, have to go with 9mm 3.3. if you go 4" XDS, the 45acp is a good alternative to a compact 1911, the 4" gives it better velocity. I would say 45acp is more sensitive to barrel length than the 9mm in terms of penetration.

I have both, that being said 9mm. if you want the 45ACP i would go with the 4.0. shoots way better in 45ACP

as others have said the XDS 45ACP hates people and isnt for range days.

I went with the 9 over the 45 because of capacity (like others mentioned). I carry 9+1 and two extra 9 round mags. Both are great guns, but I went with more capacity over the larger round.
