    9mm 1911 with 3-3.5" barrel

I love my pistols and I'm planning out the final months of the year under the assumption that SSE will end and we won't have access for the foreseeable future to pistols not on the roster - my feeling is that any legislative or judicial challenge will be a long time coming.

I've had my eye on the Dan Wesson ECO as my last gun of the year and I'm excited to add it. It's just hard pulling the trigger on this last gun, because after this one EVERYTHING not on the roster is off-limits to me. I just wanted to make sure I'm covering all the bases and I'm not forgetting anything - if I don't get it by the end of the year I'm assuming I won't ever be able to get it.

So, in addition to the ECO I've considered the following:
    1. Springfield EMP - still on the roster so I'm not wasting an SSE slot on it this year
    2. Kimber Sapphire II Ultra - too gaudy for my tastes
    3. Sig P938 - I love Sigs and already picked up two of these this year but I don't really consider them 1911's anyways
    4. Kimber Aegis - I like it and think it has everything I'm looking for. I have a couple of Kimber 1911's in 45ACP and I'm happy with them, but for about $250 more I think I'd prefer the Dan Wesson

Can you guys suggest anything else to consider? I have plenty of everything else so 9mm 1911 under 3.5" is all I'm looking for. Just waiting on the that guy to say "get a glock" No.

I really love the Eco. I've been considering getting one myself. They are hard to find in 9mm right now though.

I would also look at STIs. We jut got a distributor for them and they make some awesome guns. My girlfriend just bought the Elektra to go on her permit and I'm really impressed with it.

The Kimber Sapphire isn't as gaudy in person as it looks. They did a really nice job with it. The finish is awesome.

STI Escort for a singles tack or a STI VIP for a double stack.

I had an Escort for almost a year and really liked it.

Thanks for the STI recommendation. I checked out their offerings and some look very interesting. Definitely glad I asked!

I'm going to be grabbing the RIA compact in 9mm by the end of the year. There is also the colt defender and new agent which come in 9mm and are 3".

A 9mm Kimber Tactical Pro II has a 4.25" barrel but is definitely a sweet shooter.

If going with STI, be sure to go above their Spartan line. I have a commander sized Spartan IV in 9 mm, and while it is a good shooter, the fit/finish is definitely not up to STI's claimed standards. The frame and slide are made by RIA including maybe some other parts, and the machining leaves much to be desired.

If you are interested at all in the EMP I would get it before the end of October. Springfield has a current free two mags and an additional mag pouch deal right now until Oct 31st. Also the EMP is going to go off the roster by February 2015.

OP, if you want the DW ECO, check out Kentucky Gun Co. They have it in stock for a good price.

I recently bought the STI 1911 Tactical SS 4.0 in 9mm and it seems to be a very nice piece. Just picked it up after the 10 day wait so I have not yet shot it. STI offers this gun in a 3.0 model (3" barrel). It is also offered in a 2011 model.

How do you know it is not being renewed? It's a great seller and I doubt Springfield is just going to let it drop off the roster.

Why not a 1911-inspired pistol, like a Sig 938? EDIT - nm I saw it was on your list already

Microstamping comes to mind. When it was first rostered it was not required to have microstamping. Seen quite a few guns leave the roster when renewal came about. After watching Glock not bother with getting the Gen 4 into Ca, then Ruger and S&W just giving up on CA I am of little faith. But you are right it should not have been stated as a fact. It might fall off the roster in feb 2015.

May I suggest the Spartan III?

Renewing a gun already on the roster is much different than adding a new gun such as the Gock Gen 4. The problem with some of the guns that have fallen off are due to changes in manufacturing which require that they get submitted as new model numbers in which case the microstamping is the main road block.

Also, S&W just recently renewed the Ca M&P shield so they have not completely given up.
