    SP101 or Glock 20SF

    Some background...

My wife has a 686 and I've been envious of her for the longest time. Since this dropped off the roster, I am looking at a SP101, 3" model.

It will be more of a fun range gun, but will also serve some purpose for a sidearm when hiking in big game territory. Of most concern to me are hogs and bears...maybe coyotes, or mountain lions.

My other option is a Glock 20SF. I love the power of the 10mm coupled with its higher round count in the mag than the SP101 (basically 1/2 the round count). I just dont like the idea of another caliber that I have to buy/handload for and its an expensive one... I am already loading for 357 mag and have some heavy cast for my wife's 686 if I need the penetration/knowdown power.

The other semi autos I have are 9mm pistols.

Both are going to be in the same price range (500-600 out the door) so price is a non-issue.

    help me choose!

I'm a big Glock fan, so it always gets my vote. They have served me really well over the years.

Sp101 is a great gun, but as a range gun I would say no. The 5 round capacity is not fun.
Glock in 9mm would be great range gun. You will go broke feeding a 10mm unless you reload.

My favorite is my Glock 20SF. Lots of reliable firepower, even with 10 rounders.
I own 15 round magazines and to me, this is an ideal woods gun.

Also, I can shoot .40 if desired and with a barrel swap, .357 SIG or 9X25.

Hardly any handgun is more powerful and versatile.

But.....you really have to reload to run this machine.

I love the .357 caliber and .357 wheel guns, but they are heavy and limited to 5 or 6 rounds. Just borrow the wife's.....haha.

For plinking, 10MM and .357 Magnum are poor choices. Too expensive.

Plink with 9MM or even .40.

I vote Glock 20 with future conversion barrels.

when i mean plinking, i mean, giving it to friends to have them feel some power between their hands. LOL.

Isn't the SP101 the compact version?
Doesn't Ruger make a revolver more comparable to the 686?
Seems like a bigger revolver would be a lot more fun at the range.

686's are coming back on roster as 686-A.

I think there are a couple old version still on roster.

Completely 2 different guns. My G20SF would be the last gun Id sell. SP101 is not fun to shoot, nothing like a SW686. BVAC 180 gr. 10mm feels as good as 45 ACP. Check out cheaper than dirt bulk pack if you dont want to load your own.

Op: Well, I've got a G29 which you know from your research is the sub compact 10mm for Glock. I love it though the good ammo per se is pricey. So I say G20 to answer your question. Then the G29 as a follow up or vice versa.

The mission for my G29 is purely as a hunting sidearm.

                        Enjoy !

G20 for me but that's only bc I have so much fun shooting them compared to the sp101.

If it were a diff Ruger revolver, it may be harder to say.

                            10mm>357 mag. That was easy.

Think I'd go for the SP101, 38 specials for plinking and 357 for penetration/knock down power. Or maybe get a 357 Blackhawk it would be perfect for hogs, bears, coyotes, mountain lion, etc...
