My son bought a slightly used Canik TP-9 on Gun Broker. It has had a consistent problem cycling. Every 3 or 4 rounds it will fail to fire. According to him, it appears the slide is not going completely into battery (although this is not evident every time). He is either having to fire the gun again or tap the rear of the slide to put it into battery. The previous owner was a little less than forthcoming on his use of the gun. He claimed he only put 20 rounds through it, but my son says, when he received it it was filthy and evident there was much more than 20 rounds fired. Also, the previous owner had filed the front sight and screwed it up. My son has since replace the sights. Any ideas?

Recoil spring damaged or worn, extractor damaged not functioning correctly, chamber too tight. You'll need to check each one to rule them out till you find the culprit. Could also be the magazine or even the ammo.
This is not a commen problem with the TP-9, they are actually known for being very reliable functioning handguns.
Why someone would file the front sight, it's plastic is beyond me. New the gun comes with three different size front sights and the tool to change them.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

Sucks man sorry to hear, I've had nothing but good luck using gunbroker both buying and selling, every once in a while some dishonest guy will sell a firearm on there.Comment

If you can't figure out the issue, send it to Cajun Gun Works. They work on Caniks. While it's there, get it tuned

So previous owner filed down the front sight?
Check to see if the Front Sight is causing the issue, it could be dragging on the barrel.
Try to run it with out the Front sight.Current Armory:

Okay...cleaned it thoroughly before shooting and took it out for myself. Every second or third round it would fail to fire. The slide was fully in battery each time it failed. When the trigger was reset and fired again in the "double action" mode, it would discharge. It consistently fired on the 2nd pull of the trigger. I removed several rounds after the initial failure and there was no indication of a primer strike at all. Ideas?Comment

Send it to Cajun Gun Works, David will diagnose and fix your problem. We're not experts on the platform as he is. You'll just get conjecture from us.Comment

Did you remove the firing pin and spring from the slide and clean the hole it rides in?" Did you put the decocker tab in correctly when you reassembled the slide and reinstalled the firing pin?Okay...cleaned it thoroughly before shooting and took it out for myself. Just curious if you ever solved the problem. I have a brand new TP9 doing the exact same thing. Every couple of shots it fails to fire in single action. Will fire in double action.Comment

Clean the firing pin channel. See if it still does it. Glocks are known for this type of malfunction when too much crap goes into the firing pin channel.
Let us know if this fixes her issuessigpicComment
