Need advice on sights for AR Pistol

I picked one of these up last year from Shooter's Warehouse on Micron Ave.

This is my first AR Pistol, and I am just ahead of clueless on how to finish it off. This is intended to be a range toy that will be shot outdoors. It's a 1/7 twist if that matters.

I've got a Magpul forward angle grip mounted on it and I plan to shoulder the gun when I fire it. I've also bought a sling mount/replacement buffer plate that will fit in above and behind the grip and allow me to mount a sling when I want to.

So here I am with my long, flat top and no idea on what kind of sights I want to put on it. I've got an Eotech that I could put on it, but I'd also like to get some BUIS, hopefully that can be zeroed in to work with the Eotech so that I can use either one while at the range.

The two most obvious answers that I have come across are: 1) the Magpul generation 2 flip up sights for about $90, or 2) the Troy flip up sights for around $250.

What about standard iron sights rather than the flip-up kind? I can't stand this thing up in my safe anyway and it's already taking up a crapload of space. I don't think the type of sights that I put on it are going to measurably impact how hard it is to store or carry in a case.

I am looking for opinions and advice as to the best way to finish this thing off. Comments and opinions are appreciated.

I put magpul flip ups on mine...of course the troy ones are nicer but for the amount that I shoot this thing the Magpul ones work just fine. I had an Eotech 512 on it awhile back but used it for a trade for something else. It was fun with the Eotech on it but if I ever throw another one on there it'll probably be the XPS2 or something smaller than the 512.

I had a set of MBUS on my pistol AR and never used it. All you really need is a red dot.

Keep an eye on Primary Arms. They run deals on back-up sights all the time. I tend to prefer folding sights for pistols. The Eotech is always a good choice for these. And, providing the overall length is 26" or greater, you can use a regular vertical forward grip instead of the angled one if you want to. If you ever want to use it for something other than a range toy, you might want to look at adding a light as well. I didn't originally plan on mine being anything other than a toy either. But it works pretty well for close-in shooting.

Thanks for the tips guys. I didn't know Magpul made all metal sights, and I really liked that Troy HK sight ($$$) that was suggested. Why do people like flip-up sights (rather than standard iron sights) on AR Pistols so much?

Because you have a big ol flat top on that thing. "Standard" irons would be hard to get on there now.

I actually prefer a small red dot on the pistols, and with the iron sights, I have an open rear sight. You don't have to get so close to it to use it effectively.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.

I'm going to try running it with my Eotech on the pistol and see how it goes since I'm just breaking this thing in anyway. If I decide to go to or add iron sights, it's going to be the Troy HK flip-ups or the Magpul all metal flip-ups. I'm having trouble justifying $250ish sights, but I know that's what I'm going to have to buy to be happy with this, so I went with the Eotech I already had to see if I could stave off the purchase of higher-end BUIS. It helps me to rationalize an expensive purchase when I can say that I tried to find a low-cost alternative first.

Thanks for the opinions and advice. Here's a pic of my pistol as it stands today:

This is a standard Phase 5 CQC Pistol with an Eotech L3 and a Magpul AFG. The sling-mount-buffer-plate is in the mail, and I'm ready to break this beast in. Thanks for coming by my thread.

I like a small red-dot that co-witnesses with the front sight, and a laser + tactical light. The AR pistols are really hard to shoot like a normal pistol, so I tend to use the laser a lot. The tac light is just a cool thing to have in addition - especially if it has the strobe mode for disorientation of up-close adversaries.

I put the Troy micro dioptic sights on mine. Love em and they are more like $170 for the set.
