I'll assume that you started this thread because deep down you WANTED us to say S&W, even though I originally said Springfield because of the 3 mag promotion. If you want the S&W, then only the S&W will do.

I just looked and Buds has the railed E-Series for 1065, and the un-railed for 776. That's hard to beat for a Smith. Sigs seem like a solid gun but I can't get past that extra line on the slide. I want a 1911 that looks like a 1911, not just another generic Sig. I know that's really trivial but with so many choices all around the same price then why not?

Like fmunk said, my gut wants an S&W. My grandpa carried on during his career as a LEO and it's saved his bacon a couple of times, and he still carries it to this day. I know that just one gun isn't a very scientific study, but it's hard to argue when he's been carrying and shooting it on a daily basis for longer than I've been alive with no major complaints.

Sig makes a "1911 Traditional" line that has the traditional 1911 pattern slide. The TacOps model is offered in both lines. Rail, night sights and 4 mags.

IIRC, Buds does not ship off-roster guns to CA.

Also, some CA FFLs do not charge SSE fee if you order the gun from them (as opposed to you buying one online and shipping it to your CA FFL for SSE and DROS).

If I remember correctly..... You all but had decided on the S&W over the Springfield a few months ago.
It would appear that nothing has changed since then...

Sometimes we can over-analyze decisions and become paralyzed... If that's the case, simply wait a few more months,
and Sacramento will make the decision for you.

I have handled the E series TA. The trigger had less wiggle than the previous Smith series of which I have two. If you are going to do the bother of SSE I would suggest either of the Tacticals with rail or go to one of the two models of the round butt. You'd be getting something that looks different from the "run of the mill" 1911. The fit of my SA loaded is better than the fit of my non-E series Smith, but the finish is better on the Smiths. Both companies have good customer service. Either way you should be good to go, but make sure the fish scales are appealing before you SSE that Smith

If you really want the S&W then get it. If you don't like it, which I doubt, you can always sell it and get the SA Loaded.

Having experienced QC issues with about 6 of the 7 Springfield products purchased, to include their EMP, the Loaded and a 3" 1911 I'm wary of buying Springfield. Instead of an immediate "I like, I'll buy" I tend to look about for something from another company.

S&W or SA are both great quality tools, get what your hand tells you, not people!

Get a SA Mil Spec and send it to SACS and have it built the way you want it. Sure, it will cost more than a SA Loaded, but you can have it your way.

I'm surprised to see all the love for the SW1911 on this thread, just because as mentioned they don't come up on your usual 1911 calguns threads.

My first 1911 bought 6 years ago was an S&W, just the standard SW1911 w stainless slide and black rubber grips. Have bought a lot of different handguns since then but that SW1911 is still one of my top 2 favorites. Has never choked on me one time since I took it out of the box, no mods, and thousands of rounds later it still works flawlessly, and the fit and finish is very nice as well.

I'm with you, I could care less about the external extractor. Since has never choked once on any JHP or FMJ brand I have ever put through it I have utter confidence in it as my bedside HD gun. Yes there is a tiny bit of travel/looseness in the trigger, but to me it's negligable and it's one of most accurate handguns I own.

That being said, my local LGS has quite a few models of Sig 1911s in the window these days, all in the $900-$1100 price range and I was planning on getting a Sig1911 for my next purchase since I wanted another .45. It was either going to be that or a HK USP45 given how reliable my HK USP9c has been over the years.
But found good deal on barely used Wilson Combat CQB on this site and decided to throw down the extra cash and get that. Yes, obviously I can tell the difference in the trigger on my Wilson compared to my S&W, etc, the Wilson overall feels like a dream even though have not had chance to shoot it yet, but honestly I am still in love w my standard SW1911 I bought 6 yrs ago for $850 or so before tax etc.
If your desired SW1911 is too much hassle to get I have read of a lot of people really liking their Sig 1911s.

But then again, there's a ton of people on this board that have much more experience than I do w all the various options for 1911s out there.
But yes I do have a lot of trigger time w my SW1911 and still holds special place for me to this day, and that was just the base model. Good luck in your search. Handle a few and see what feels good to you and yes, you do learn something from reading up on all the 1911 threads on overall what people are happy with these days.

i was in this same exact situation contemplating between these 2 as well. IMO both are fine choices but after waiting a year i ultimately chose the S&W because deep down i knew thats what i really wanted. its in jail now and i cant wait to take delivery. it sounds like you already made up your mind and just need reinforcement for making the right decision, just go with your gut feeling.

Same here. I have an SS model (NM series). The TRP is a hell of a pistol if you like the aggressive checkering on the front grip (I don't). Good luck.

I have a performance center S&W 1911 sc on order. The SA will be easier to find but i sure like the S&W better.
