    Theme Based Range Session

I live very close to an indoor range so trips can be somewhat impromptu and I typically only take a couple of handguns with me. I don't have a huge collection but enough where I seem to fall into a common theme sometimes choosing the ones I take.

For example, it might be "hammer time" and take only hammer fired ones.

Maybe it's 9 time and only take 9mm.

Or I'll have a "tupperware" party and take only poly framed

    Or heavy metal.......

Or ...... Well, I guess you get it.

Naturally, any "theme" may be driven by the latest addition. I pick up a Walther PPQ in 10 days so it may be "rookie" day and take my other recent acquisitions.

    How do you choose?

My wife shoots her MK25 & Combat 9mm exclusively. She has no desire of trying any of mine.
I on the other hand shoots all by rotation. Every 500 rounds, that particular piece gets clean & lube and goes back into the safe. Take out a different one and goes through the same process.

I have a couple of favorites when I go to the range. But I try to take something in each caliber available. Maybe a 9, a .40, and a .45. .22 if I'm feeling cheap and don't want to shoot expensive ammo.

Also depends on who I go with. Friends fairly new to shooting, I take small caliber. Friends with experience I take the bigger stuff. If I have something new, it definitely goes with me.

I like to shoot a variety of guns. I like going with friends and shooting stuff I don't have. Seems to help improve my skills.

Sometimes I just reach into the safe and take whatever comes out. I'm not picky, I just love filling the paper with holes.

      Sorry, not sorry.

Your disciplined method makes me think I may change my methodology. I tend to shoot based on whatever mood I'm in (handgun or long gun, by caliber or whether or not I feel like cleaning it afterwards ) However, it recently occurred to me that I have not shot some of my firearms in a long while. It gives me an uneasy feeling if I don't stay on top of it and practice with all of them!

That and I like the feel of different calibers, grips and models. Also, I'm at peace knowing that every piece gets the proper care.
