    1911 a machine gun?

That's what Washington DC said when Dick Heller himself went in to register his seven shot 45.

    All "semi-autos" are "machine guns."

    Guess what? New Law suit!

These guys on teh left do not go down easy! Don't mistake it -- we will have to fight every day!

Listen to Heller's lawyer explain what's going on there. Listen, and learn:

I bet that's because the evidence tag from the prior case was still tied to the trigger guard with shoe-string!! I'm willing to bet they try to bust him for constructive possession! A shoe-string makes for a fully automatic firearm you know....

Maybe they meant "gun machine", as in "a machine that shoots projectiles".

        Oh wait. Those are legal.
Then another horse PONY came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword. My kinda guy.

I think this is old news, hopefully we don't LOSE GROUND ON THIS BY VOTING FOR OBAMA

Wasn't there a picture of a very fat fellow "bump" firing a semi by holding the pistol tight against his body? Twinkies + semi = constructive possession.

I saw a picture of a belt-fed 1911 once (probably photo shopped). That must mean the 1911 is a machine gun.

Well, the Dillinger gang did have a modified 1911 with a 15 round mag and a foregrip from a Thompson.

i think there might be some nomenclature confusion

autoloading pistols used to be called "automatics" and maybe that term confused the writers of the law

This is NOT old news -- I am trying to show how even a "victory" in Heller is being fought by the libs who hate guns.

Whippet Gun = extremely short shotgun w/ pistol grip. Usually double barreled but sometimes single shot or pump. Popular with gangsters during the Prohibition era.

They must have caused some serious wrist snappage.

This actually did come out shortly after the original Heller decision (the day they opened registration). The reason a 1911 was determined to be a "machine gun" because the DC district law definition of a machine gun includes "any weapon capable of accepting a removable magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds". That's right, CAPABLE of accepting. So anything with detachable mags is a machine gun. IIRC, SCOTUS told them to rewrite the definition, as that banned several classes of firearm that the fed considers acceptable.

I've always considered true whippet guns to be shotguns with shortened stocks, not necessarily pistol grips. Note that the Browning shotgun at the bottom of the Dillinger photo still has some shoulder stock remaining.
