    Thoughts on the Glock 30s?

I plan to pick up an SSE or two over the next few months while I can.
Looking at what I already have, am thinking a 10 round 45 should be added to the pile. Thoughts on the G-30s? I checked them out at SHOT show, but didnt think much about them till now. Other options? Might add it to my CCW one day so what are your thoughts on 10 round 45's? Glock? S&W MP?

    Thanks

Love the G30S. Slightly larger than the G26/27 but easy to conceal. The 9 round flush magazine makes it even easier to conceal. If you've shot the G30 or 30SF, it recoils a little bit more due to the lighter slide weight. The 30S would be a great addition.

I jail mine on Saturday and will add it to my CCW to pair with my G27. I've never shot one yet so can't comment on how it shoots, but at G19 size with 10 rounds of .45, it should be fantastic for CCW.

The G30s is an excellent choice to add to the stable.

It's basically identical in size and weight to the G19 (loaded to 16 rounds). It even shares the same holsters as the G19. It feels exactly like the G19 when carrying. G29's and G30's feel far bigger and heavier when carrying. The G30s is also legal to CCW in commie San Francisco with their unconstitutional 10 round mag limit - which also includes you LEO's if you're in possession of personal mags.

Should SSE go away and you can't get a G29 anymore, just add a G29 slide/barrel/mag to your G30s and you now have a 10mm G29 SF. I wouldn't hold your breath that someone might make a drop in 10mm conversion barrel. I don't think the smaller size slide envelope could handle the chamber pressures of 10mm.

My only wish is that the G30s would have been a gen 4. They're coming, but not likely before SSE goes away and we're screwed. I suspect we'll see the Gen 4's appear at the next Shot Show.

The other 10 or 10+ round .45 ACP candidates are far larger in size (full size) and weight. The M&P 45c is about the same size as the G30s, but it has an 8 round mag and there's no possibility for a 10mm conversion. The 45c is also heavier. If you want much smaller than the G30s, you sacrifice capacity with 5 or 6 round mags.

The G30s occupies a niche all by itself - small enough to carry well and packs 11 rounds of big bore badness. That's a win-win by anyone's definition.

I rented a G30 once and it shot really well for me. The recoil was very manageable and overall it was a pleasure to shoot. It is slightly large for CCW as it is about the same size as a G19 but it's definitely doable. You might also want to consider a G36. It's a single-stack .45 and it's slightly slimmer than the G30s. Only problem is that it only has a 6-round capacity.

I wanted a .45 to round out my CCW and PPT'd a Gen 3 30SF (I don't know if there is a Gen 4 so I included that info). I like it a lot. The SF was the right price and I get the 10+1 .45 I wanted.

I really enjoyed shooting my Dad's G30 (non-S version). Really made me want to pick one up.

Maybe in weight. But it's a 2 finger grip vs a 3 finger grip. Feels totally different.

No it's not. It's a 3 finger grip just like the G19. If you lay a G30s on top of a G19, they are almost identical, including grip length. Where they differ is the thickness of the grip when looking at them side by side from the rear.

I have the 30sf and if you're going to go for a 10 round in .45, this is hard to beat!

Great gun. Just a bit too wide for my tastes, and for what I can carry better concealed (for example, the G36 or single stack 9's hides much better on my body due to the narrower grip). But that's me as others may vary with how they carry.

As for the gun itself, great gun to shoot. Only thing is the G30S comes with a 3rd Gen frame so the grip is slippery from the factory (again, for my tastes). I'd either add some grip tape or stipple the Gen 3 grip for a better grip.

Am I confused or something? It has a 2 finger grip with a mag extension that doesn't feel like the grip (stock).

Now if you had a pearce extension or something similiar....then maybe.
