    S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 Questions

I have (nearly) decided to get an S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 as a pocket pistol for CCW, for those 108 degree days or really quick shorts-and-a-t-shirt trips where a Shield in an IWB holster won't conceal. I have decided on this over a Ruger LCP mainly due to the sights and the thumb safety.

Does anybody have any experience with the Galloway trigger mod? I think with the thumb safety I would be happier with the shorter pull.

For those who carry .380 Auto, what ammo do you like for carry and for training? Yes, I know, the .380 Auto is supposed to be underpowered, but the gun in your pocket is always better than the gun you left at home.

Have a bone stock one and its a good shooter and very easy to conceal. Super tiny, not to fun to shoot cause my hands are a little to big for it. I need to adjust the laser on it too

I carry the Bodyguard 380 in my pocket all the time, it's very comfy even at 110 degree weather, I am thinking of the Galloway upgrade too! I carry it with Hornady and Remington Golden Sabre

I have one. Love it. I can grip it better than the LCP.

I have no experience with the trigger mod.....it is on my list of things to do.

I reload cast lead boolits for shooting. I use Hornady critical defense for carry.

I do not use the safety. Because it is hard to use. It sits almost flush with the body, and is hard to reach with my thumb. Plus the trigger pull is loooonnnnggggg!

I do suggest that you look into some grip tape. Mine is kinda slick feeling.

380 has come a long ways in the past 10 years or so. For up close and personal, it will do the job.

Have you looked at the Sig P938? It's almost the same size as many 380's, but you get the 9mm caliber. I bought it for ccw and it works well for pocket carry.

            Just a thought...

I have a BG380 and had the Galloway trigger kit installed. IMO it didn't reduce the trigger pull that much, and the trigger on the BG380 is way too heavy. I bought a P938 and much prefer it over the BG380 for pocket carry.

Can you still get a new bodyguard in CA? Thought it was off the roster list?
I would love to get my hands on one as well.

I have the 938 and 238... I use the 238 on the really hot days... Just enough smaller than the 938 to make a difference..God forbid you cully ever have to use your ccw you want something you can connect with and is reliable..

Plus the 238 is well made and still get all giddy when I look at it..will post pic later

I don't think modifying the trigger for a carry gun is necessary. Especially this gun. The trigger will be the last of your concern if you're needing to use it. Just practice with it and accept that it's a very short range back up gun for bad situations.

I just started the ten days on my BG 380. I doubt I'll add any modifications.

The BG 380 needs the trigger kit, IMO.
The long/hard pull affects accuracy. You can train yourself to adjust to it but why do this when there is an alternative out there. I only wish there were other vendors offering trigger kits instead of just Galloway.
Other than the the trigger issue, (although a BIG issue) it is the finest CC weapon available.
I recommend trying one before purchase.

from what i've read the galloway kit is more about shortening the length of pull than reducing pull weight.

hickock45 tried it with the galloway kit installed and he said there's a "world of difference" between them with the kit installed vs without. video: http://youtu.be/HazbEmiMkas

The problem with the BG 380 trigger is the unnatural position of your finger just before the hammer finally drops. I've put less than 50 rnds through mine but it is clear to me I want the kit installed.
When pulling the trigger it pulls much deeper than any firearm I've shot before, then near the end of trigger clearance in the guard, it fires. Large hands amplify the odd position your finger must be in for the final squeeze
The trigger pull weight is not an issue until you are 3/4 through the pull.
The Galloway kit claims a 35% reduction in this pull. This sounds to me like it will fix this one problem I have found with this weapon.
I'll report back when I have invested the $100 for the kit and installed it. Probably not in the near future. Other priorities...

I own one I purchased from a LEO who didn't like the trigger pull. I use it for a bug and it is a great gun for my needs.

Having been in a couple of exchanges of gun fire in the military not civilian and I have sat around and talk over these fights with the guys I was with. Never once did I hear a mention of feeling the trigger or any comments about the trigger on any weapon we fired. The adrenalin and emotion overpower any thought of a long trigger pull for me. I am old fashioned and sent my 1911 I bought used back to the factory and had them return it to stock original. All of my guns have no modifications on them but I do not compete. I do have a trigger shoe on my deer rifle.
I like the gun and the laser is great for night shooting especially skunks in the chicken coop.
