    Recommend a sight pusher

Also posted in local oc forum but figure this will allow more people to respond:

Is there a particular sight pusher that people would recommend for a wide variety of slides? I already have the other tools that would be needed except for a vise. I would need it to fit a variety of slides from small and narrow cz slides to a wide usp slide to a slide for a subcompact, although if it can't do subcompacts, that isn't a huge deal as many have simplified systems (ie screws).

If it makes a difference I will not be buying this immediately or sometime soon.

    I own this:

its inexpensive, and its a bit crude, but it works. I had to pick up paint can mixing sticks from home depot to create shims to keep the slides from getting messed up, or to shim the slides up to the correct height, but once you get the hang of it, its relatively easy to change sights.

I'm sure there are far better ones out there, but this is the one I have and I'm happy with it.

Fisher solutions sells his pushers here on Calguns. If you buy it from his site, you can get free shipping.

The threads are coarse and the machine is rough in places (can get binding in a spot on the screw), but working it back and forth several times smooths it out. I really needed one for a Sig SP2022 which had an incredibly tight rear sight. A bit 18" wrench helped move the sight.

I've regularly used it on my M&P to remove, replace and adjust the sight after putting in the Apex striker block. It is much easier to carefully move the sight with this than drifting it with a hammer and brass rod.

Best sight pusher money can buy! I have done sights from M&P, Glock, 1911, Ruger, XD, even odd shaped slides are not a problem, I have not encountered a slide that doesn't fit or hold on this sight pusher!
It will not scratch your slide at all, this thing is very well made!
Just remember, you get what you paid for!

A small hammer and a 1/4-inch punch made from Delrin or brass seems to work perfectly.

looks like everyone is recommending the fisher/sight master although the p500 looks great as well... looks like it's going to come down to a brief cost benefit analysis.

btw, it looks like neither one requires clamping/bolting down onto a workbench correct? from the pictures i don't see any mounting points. i would prefer one that didn't require a permanent workbench for various reasons.

If I only had a few guns needing sight changes, I would just pay someone.
