    80 series colt 1911 government 45 slide

Can anyone tell me why on my colt 1911 it came standard woth a short slide rod. It makes it near impossible to get it back together.

Do you mean short guide rod?
When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."

are you trying to assemble a slide just by itself?

Wow that was a quirky take down..

Yea I'm actually confused, the FLGR actually made it harder from me. I went from FL to GI in my Springfield, made the takedown easier for me. Assuming that's what you meant by short guide rod.

That's how you're supposed to take down tighter 1911's to preserve the barrel to bushing fit, totally unnecessary for looser pistols but I only use this method on my Ria and Taurus just to build a good habit for when I can afford a Wilson or other high end gun haha

Yeah the flgr complicates things for me as well, much prefer the gi rod

I am also kind of confused so I am not sure how to help. One benefit of the GI (short) guide rod is the ease of assembly and disassembly. This is the first thing I do whenever I get a 1911 with a full length guide rod, may it be one-piece or two-piece. Why is it harder?

                        What exactly was happening?

Another thing I had happen a few times when I got my series 80 was the little part of the firing pin safety on the frame would stick up making it impossible to slide the slide rearward, and I confused it for the guide rod jumping before noticing it was the safety
