Ed Brown SF back from Alchemy Custom (light mods only)

Liked the 10-8 sights on my Baer (.115 width front, .125 10-8 rear) so I sent over the SF to get the same treatment.

The Baer had more of the internals slicked up: 10-8 rear flat FPS fitted, polished and tuned extractor, fit additional Wilson BP extractor, feed ramp and barrel were polished, sear spring polished, and barrel hood slightly relieved.

SF only had minimum mods: .140 10-8 rear, polish and tune extractor (stock extractor was barely clocking but no function issues), fit flat FPS.

Factory mods to SF include flat and serrated slide top and ambi safety.

Both guns run 17lb flatwire Wilson recoil springs with the Wilson GI guide rod.

Now they match (almost, aside from the acid-hand wear on the Baer).

Baer has about 3500 rounds through it, SF has around 4000 rounds.

Rob does great work, is very reasonable with pricing, and great to communicate with. Worth sending in your 1911s!

Absolutely perfect! I love the 10-8 sights, and those guns look like they have honest wear on them. Really nice! Not familiar with Alchemy custom but I'll look into them.

Very nice sir! I am considering Rob for custom work.

Love the look of both the Baer and the Brown! Enjoy them more!

Another +1 for Rob and crew at Alchemy. Great group of guys. Rob initially was at Springfield Armory and then at Les Baer before he decided to open up his own shop.

Very responsive to calls and e-mails and he KNOWS his 1911's!

          Happy shooting and be safe!

I haven't had any work done by Alchemy Custom but like what I see.
            Very nice.

Hmmmm, that Ed Brown is looking tempting My PII is awesome and my favorite pistol, I think a SF would compliment it nicely as you've shown. How is the POA/POI for those sights? I still have the original adjustable rear/front black on my PII and my POA = POI right now out to 10yards.

I've heard nothing but good things about Alchemy. Those pictures look great.

One day my Baer will look as worn and mature as yours.

I've noticed that 10-8 sights are a real popular upgrade in the 1911 crowd. I actually like the stock night sights that come with the LB Custom Carry. Is there a definitive edge the 10-8s have over the LB sights or is it more of a personal preference thing?

The 10-8s have a wider opening (stock Baer rear width is .115, I have the .125. Most people get .140). It also seems faster for follow up shots since your eye naturally centers the post in the notch and less of the target is obscured.

OP, I love the look of your used Baer. I need to send my Baers to Alchemy for the 10-8 rear and gold bead front site.

My Browns have the 10-8 rear, .140'' notch. It's fast to acquire the front site.
