    Derringers Legal?

I know they are legal but the question i want to ask is, which ones are legal? I cannot seem to find any on the doj list. Im looking for a higher caliber than just a .38, maybe a .357. I know the 45lc are illegal due to the fact that they can shoot .410

Cobra Enterprise is the only manufacturer with derringers on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.

Largest caliber they have listed is .38Special.

Who wants a .38 derringer? Might as well buy a bb gun derringer. Wish there was a higher caliber than that

I played around with a Davis (now manufactured by Cobra.) derringer for a while in 32 ACP.
it was hard to hit a target that wasn't really big or really close up. It has to do with the really stiff triggers (do to the fact I don't have a trigger guard I think)
& it was slow to reload.
I definitely would not use one for any type of self-defense application.
on the plus side they used to be pretty cheap I think mine was less than $100. and the size is small even if they are a little thick.
mine also always functioned as it was designed. a design that I think its from the 1800's.

if you're looking for small derringers I would suggest the old high standard double action trigger design. I believe those only came in 22 Magnum at the most but I could be mistaken.
                    there is a
brand new company that makes a .45 caliber two shot derringer.
it looks of a modern design but its large as derringers go.

Is there someone you don't like that you want to take shooting? If so let them shoot the DoubleTap first.

I have a Davis 38 Special Derringer. It's pretty small & lite, I think you'd want a bigger Derringer or at least one made out of all steel if you went with a larger caliber.
