    Help Me Pick :)

    Hi All,

I know these questions get asked a lot, and often I am in agreement with folks on the thought of "try out and see what you like best" - but this time it is different, I promise

So I am looking into the following and am having trouble picking a new 9mm and/or 45acp.

    Options:
    FN FNP/FNX (9 or 45 - would likely go 9)
HK USP (9 or 45 - would likely go 45 Expert)
    HK VP9
    HK 45
    Walther PPQ M2
    Glock 17/19/21
    Sig P226/227/229

I have shot the FN, USP, HK 45, Sig's and the Glock's.

Haven't tried the PPQ or the VP9 but everyone is raving about them...

Trouble is I have likes and dislikes for each on the list.

I shoot left, but train right as well.

Usage is HD, range etc (no CCW).

Am a fan of full size, longer barrel and sight radius (larger mitt - reduced recoil and balance on follow-up shots) and like both striker fire and/or decocker/safety (as in USP/FN).

1911 grip angle points well with my hand and ironically blocky grip (XD vs M&P) gives me better purchase but (example CZ 75) molds so well that it points/shoots like an extension of my hand.

Cost is not a worry nor is 9mm/45acp as both balistically (with correct ammo) are just as effective for my usage.

CA is 10 round limited so magazine capacity is moot as well.

Silly factor - FDE is growing on me

Quite a pickle - any thoughts?

Since cost is not a worry, go with the vp9 and the hk 45 before sse is gone. Good luck finding a vp9 though. Seems everyone is looking to pick one up.

That's quite a diverse list. With money a non-issue, why limit yourself to one (or three) ???

            Sig P226 MK25...done deal.

Then get the Walther PPQ M2 for a backup 9 mm

For a .45 ...Sig P220 (whatever version you like)

You won't find better quality guns. If you want run of the mill, buy Glocks.

This is probably one of the toughest choice threads I've ever read. All of those guns are great. Since you have likes and dislikes maybe choosing the gun dislikes you can live with would be the best choice. For me, I love the HK 45. I find no flaws in it. The USP has that proprietary light rail which is a deal breaker. The Sigs have amazing ergos but I do not like the high bore axis. Glocks are great with a huge aftermarket and magazine availability. Again this is really hard so I say get the one you will regret not getting. The Glocks are always around and so are USPs and the Sigs. With the SSE ban taking place next year, this might be the time to get the VP9 or HK 45. I'm considering getting either. I'll regret not getting them.

With that List, I predict you'll be purchasing several guns.... But you have to start somewhere.

With that in mind... every collection will always have room for the original, polymer, striker-fired, Glock 17.
.............. Why not go crazy and make it a Gen4 in FDE ???!!!

Honestly man, there's not a bad choice in the bunch...although I really don't care for HK's. So there...that helps, right? Cross the HK's off your list because Cabo doesn't like them!

Sig makes a VERY fine product and I purchased a P226 Enhanced Elite about a year ago and still get a stoopid grin on my face whenever I shoot it. I got a feeling that the P227 is probably the pinnacle for a "SA/DA off the shelf " handgun. Would love to own one.

Glock makes a great product, obviously. Not sure why the XD and M&P didn't make your list given that you talked about them?? You've got some apples and oranges going on here between polymer and steel guns. Maybe try to narrow things down based on that first. With that said, I'm looking very hard at a M&P Core in 9mm. Can't wait to try the whole, "red dot on a pistol" thing. Got a feeling it makes shooting pistols even more fun than they already are.

FN's have always interested in me but sadly, I don't have any trigger time with them. Would be worth it for that reason alone. Get the FN and let me shoot it so I can decide if I like it or not!

So there you go. Your choice should be clear now! Right!?

Hahhaa - that cracked me up Cabo!

See, the problem is my idea of something is different from reality.

Ideally, I would like to standardize on one platform, or at minimum one 9mm, 45, 357, 44mag etc.

But practice has shown this to not be the case and worst is everything has its place and purpose and no one item is perfect for all usage.

How many here have picked up a 9mm handgun and said, ahhh, now I am happy, I will train and become proficient with this one handgun and never pick another up? And stuck to it??

What happens when you like to hunt, fish, camp and back-country travel all over the globe - enjoy plinking, competition shooting and range-rambo-ing and inviting friends- also think of HD, SD and CCW - then the lines get skewed and gray is everywhere

That list is all over the place. I would say buy the most gun for the most amount of money you are willing to spend.
