CZ P-01 - Wear on the back

    Hey guys,

Let me know what you guys think of this? Here's a picture of the rust/wear on the back of my CZ P-01 when I purchased this gun used from another CalGunner.

I ended up sanding off everything on the back and now it's pretty much just the metal.

Any thoughts? At this point, I prefer this look over the ugly rusting look. I've tried re-bluing but it just doesn't come out looking clean, so I decided this would look the best.

    FINAL UPDATE:

Cerakoted in Graphite Black. Done by Pete Swanson in Fremont.

    Thanks.

You didn't just try cleaning it first?

I did, but the rust wasn't coming off easily with just solvent.. And even if I did clean it off, the half coated and half metal doesn't look so appealing. I guess I just wanted it to look more even all around.

Well now the metal is totally exposed.

Maybe leave some oil near that area?

Yeah I know. I'm thinking maybe purchasing the Birtchwood Blue Bottle. I think that might give me a better finish. I tried using the pen and I believe it is causing streaks to show when dried.

Every one of my new CZ's has come pre-rusted somewhere inside the slide... usually in the hole where the front of the recoil spring sits... I bet if you run a Q-tip in there you will find more.

it looked like normal wear that got some rust on it, clean the rust off and be done.
hit it up with some cold blue or paint on type finish

Did the previous owner live near the ocean? I have noticed that people that live close to salt water have more rust on their steel items than people who don't live near salt water. This is even for items inside the house.

My CZ didn't have rust on it when I bought it. It still doesn't have rust.

Yeah. I'll be getting some blu paint and see if I can give it a nice finish. I'll keep everyone posted with a picture once I'm done.

I'm not too sure. He never mentioned that but I may send him a PM to ask.

If you want to put bluing on it this stuff works. The parts have to be really clean but it comes out even. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...-prod1072.aspx

It might have been just dried/baked on cosmoline or similar.

Yah I've been researching blues. I heard that this one works well, but the only concern I have is that it may not give it a black look, but more of a greyish/blue look. So far Duracoat Aerosol Spray might be the choice for this project. The only problem is that it's about $45 just for one can that must be used within 48 hours after activation.

Looks like I'll be getting the entire slide painted with Cerakote on Monday. I've read a lot of good reviews on Cerakote and I'm hoping that the finish will withstand the hammer strikes on the back better than the CZ factory coating. I'll keep people posted on this thread as I go in the next days, months, etc.

I actually called the company and asked them about whether Cerakote will withstand hammer strikes on the back, and they said yes. We'll see how this holds up.
