    Wilson Combat 1911s

Are there other manufactures on par with WC 1911s?

While I don't own a WC I have quite a few friends that have them and have allowed me to shoot them. My fave of the bunch is the Tactical Compact Supergrade.. just beautiful but its also $5k!

That being said I do own 2 Guncrafter 1911's (The American and a No Name CCO) and for the money, I don't see how you can improve upon them with any other Semi Custom.

As the Sheik has said...Guncrafter. If I couldn't get a Wilson or a Guncrafter, I might go Nighthawk...might.

        another vote for Guncrafter.

The owner of Guncrafter, Alex Z, was the head of research and development at Wilson Combat for several years. He has several patents on 1911. If I remember correctly, the light rail on 1911 is one of them.

Not only is he a world renowned gunsmith and engineer, he's a really good shooter. He has won the National IDPA Stock Revolver Championships 7 times consecutively.

When it comes to high end semi-custom 1911, Guncrafter is one of the finer choices.

Love my Guncrafters. I don't see how they lack anything that wouldn't put them on par with Wilson.

I've shot a WC. Very nice. I have a Les Baer. While not as cosmetically detailed as a WC, it'll go toe for toe in a accuracy contest.

A buddy of mine owns 8 Wilson's, 3 of them are Supergrades. He says the Springfield Pro is a better gun.

Not my opinion but one I trust.

I have owned a Wilson CQB, 2 Les Baers and a Springfield Pro. The fit and finish on the Wilson and Springfield are equal. The Les Baers lag behind by a very short margin. When shooting which is what they are made for they are all equal. As a matter of fact if the sights and grips were the same a shooter could not tell them apart.

My vote is for a Baer and 3 cases of ammo or a pistol class.

Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Guncrafter, Springfield Custom are just as good or rather "on par" as any Wilson. I own or have owned all mentioned.

If you plan to keep a Guncrafter then go with that, otherwise they have horrible resale value.

Most of the higher end guns have not so good resale value. It's like modified cars. Its what someone else wanted and not really what you wanted.

None the less, give it enough time and I'm sure the more guncrafters gets known they'll command prices. Look at Nighthawk.

I went to a LGS to look around and I saw a 4" WC CQB, that thing looked weird. It was on consignment, but it look well put together. It was that god awful green frame/black slide combo. On one of the other racks I saw a Nighthawk GRP with a sniper grey frame and black slide... That thing looked pretty awesome. I just can't get over the big huge GRP billboard. I don't mind the Nighthawk logo, but damn, did they have to put GRP so damn big with an ugly font?

I have had a Springfield Custom Shop gun and an Ed Brown in the past - I liked the Brown more.

Guncrafters have bad resale value? I guess I've been looking in the wrong places...

When you have a gun above certain price range, it's more difficult to sell them. And in some cases when owners just want to get rid off them fast for quick cash, they normally sell them at a much lower price than the current value of the gun.

In Guncrafter's case, majority of the people just don't know about them. And the ones who know of Guncrafter appreciate it. I haven't met any Guncrafter owner (or previous owner) who is not happy with Guncrafter.

There are also cases when people thought they would keep the gun forever and special ordered the gun with customizations that regular people won't want. A case for me is that Model #3 for sale right now at 1911addicts. It's only $2,500. However, what keeps me away from it is the fugly front slide serration.

When at certain price range, people want to get what they want on the gun.......
