Snap caps won't make any difference. You still have to partially rack the slide to reset the firing mechanism.

And, yes, as other have said... there is no need to fully cycle the slide. As you pull the side back you should be able to feel it cock. No need to pull it back further beyond this point.

Last chance to SSE a non-CA model without the magazine disconnect. This was one of my top considerations when deciding to SSE or buy a CA "safe gun." Dry practice is good.

I don't see what the big deal is. Personally I do this with all guns if they have an empty mag inserted and I want to dry fire, mag safety or no.

Dry firing works fine while fully pulling slide back to recock.

The mag safety on the Shield is annoying for OTHER reasons like disassembly. YMMV.

Even then it's a minor inconvenience on the order of little significance. It adds no difficulty in the disassembly process. Main reason people b**** about it is because it has the stigma of government intrusion.

It adds a whole 2 seconds to disassembly and zero to reassembly LOL. However, a Glock is still easier to field strip

Instead of producing a replacement spring (which wouldn't be that hard anyways) to remove only the mag disconnect, I just removed it, and the yellow sear disconnect lever as well. Works just like a Glock, dry fire with no mag (after clearing, of course), same goes to remove slide to disassemble.

Or, as said, don't rack the slide as far back.

I haven't done mine yet, but I have read in various places there needs to be tension there where the mag disconnect piece is removed, so they use a replacement spring that's longer than the original. The idea of using a spring from a BIC pen in a carry gun doesn't appeal to me

But I am curious if you really found a different way to disable it and if your gun is 100% reliable or not in that condition.

Anyone else try this? I will take a look at it when I get a chance.

The thought of a pen spring didn't do it for me either. What I meant by my post was I removed everything so didn't need to find a replacement spring, resulting in function similar to a Glock (dry fire without mag, dry fire to disassemble, no sear disconnect needed to avoid dry firing to disassemble).

I actually intended on finding a spring and doing it that way. Began by removing it and leaving it disassembled to go find a spring I was comfortable with, when I looked at it again and realized I could just gut it entirely. You'll see once you get into it.

Block removed from gun, B/C are the mag disconnect and spring. A is sear disconnector.

I removed everything as pictured and left it out.

Instead of doing something like this, leaving the sear disconnector, with a different spring.
