    DOJ Delay Questions!

    Hi everybody,
I recently, my wife and I went for skeet shootings, we had so much fun together. It was her gift for my birthday. we basically got hooked. On july 3rd I went to a gun dealer to buy a handgun, on the 8th day, I was informed that there was a delay on my purchase until further notice. I was arrested for a DUI back in 2004, so it has been over 10 year, I was charged with a misdemeanor. now 2 weeks passed with no call from the gun dealer. The number for DOJ that the dealer gave was useless. now, all the excitement that I had is basically gone to tell you the truth. I scouted the internet and I just want to confirm the answer from you guys! the delay could last as long as a month or not? because I read some went over 6 months to get approved. My second question is, the criminal record they ask for was it for the last 10 years or not? criminal record, not mental illness and stuff like that. Sorry, im getting impatient this time, usually I'm a very patient guy Thank you in advance. I bought a glock 23

Just be patient, an employee of mine went to purchase a Glock 21 sf last year, same thing he was told there would be a delay, he has no criminal record however a past DUI. Long story, he had to provide a ton of additional information and it took 4 months to get squared away. He has his gun but during that wait he was a pissed off dude. Identity theft is common so it's possible they just have to verify. Good luck, don't sit around be proactive write letters to DOJ certified, obtain a criminal background and credit check to make sure you weren't hacked.

Thank you for your quick reply! so the delay time could last as long as they want right? would they call me if they need more info? or i just wait...cuz trying to call them is useless. They don't answer the phone like they used to apparently.

Criminal records go back to whenever. If you were convicted of something 15 years ago, like domestic violence or any felony then you are prohibited. There are a whole lotta crimes that will trigger the prohibition. Good luck if this is not the case.
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

Just a follow-up question, if you are delayed more than 30 days, do they have to run the DROS again or does the first one remain valid?

Thank you @Munky. @kansas the letter from DOJ states that "Regardless, the department is required to make its determination within thirty calendar days. If the department is unable to make a determination in this time, the dealer will be notified and may deliver the firearm to you at his/her discretion". what I know that you have to pick up your firearm within 30 days from approval, otherwise they have to run DROS again. That's what I know so far from scouting the internet. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will help
