Shields Up

For anyone interested, here's a sample of what a S&W M&P 9 Shield can do.

7-yards
combat stance, no bench-rest, etc.
125g FMJ-RN
8 rounds
lolly-pop sight picture with top of FS post at the tgt center cross
black is 4" across, center ring is 2" across
the 5-shot group at the top can be completely covered by a quarter
nice gun!

Yes, the Shield is a fine firearm. I am still working my grip because the Shield is so thin. I tend to shoot a little low and a little left, but I am getting better.

It is quite light so yes, it is more snappy than a standard size 9mm pistol. But not so much so that it is unmanageable. 125s produced a tad more recoil than 115s, as expected. But the 125's were definitely controllable. I have yet to put some 147s through it to see how it responds to that significantly bigger bullet. But from what I've seen I believe the Shield will have no issues with the 147s.

My guess, because of the snappiness of a light gun, you may be anticipating the recoil. Once I got rid of my anticipation, I stopped shooting low.

Put in a random snap cap (better to have someone else do it of course); and see how much you are anticipating.

I was shooting a good 3 to 4 inches low, until I shook off the anticipation; and that's at 7 yards. It's funny my 0.40 is snappier, but I guess in my mind I expect the 0.40 to snap. So I don't shoot low with a 0.40. I wasn't expecting the 9mm to snap so I started to anticipate the recoil.

On the Shield, I learned that when i put more of my finger into the trigger guard and put the trigger itself against the first joint of my finger - I stopped pulling the gun. It shoots exactly where I want it now. I've been shooting it that way for 2 years.

Yep noticed I had to shoot mine like that. We read about putting the pad of your finger on the trigger on autos but for some that don't work. It's probably because the shields grip is small, even for my small hands.

I can handle the shield with the same results, until I get through a few mags. Then my POI shifts to the right (I'm left handed). I know it's an anticipation problem. Also, I've been using the center pad. This thread has been helpful to show that I should be using the joint to press the trigger. Thanks for the advice!
