    BFR 30-30, Am I nuts?

So I'm at a shop yesterday picking up a couple of ppts and the above mentioned gun is still sitting in the case from my previous visit.
Lately, less than mainstream handguns have been my interest and this thing keeps eyeballing me.

Found a couple of videos on YouTube and it didn't seem as unwieldy as I thought it might.

Anyone out there have any experience with this?

They show the BFR stands for "Biggest Finest Revolver"
But when I saw it in the case I said to myself, that's a
    Big eFfin' Revolver
Cracked myself up when I found up what it's called.

    I have shot a 30-30 T/C pistol, same kick as a .44 Mag.

I think the BFR in 30-30 is kinda a cool oddity. I think they only come in the crazy barrel length, like 10.5" or something? What length tube did the one you looked at have?
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

10" although with the length of the cylinder it may have well been 16"
Felt like it needed a fore grip.
Dammit, I think I'm talking myself into it.

30-30, .223, 44Mag and 7.62x39 all have about the same amount of energy.

They make BFRs in 45/70 though.

          Just sayin'.

Yeah, I saw that 45/70 but half of what got me thinking this was ok was that I reload and am already set up for 30-30.

My dad has a BFR in .460. It is a very fun gun to shoot.

The cool thing about 30/30 in a non lever gun is you can use non flat nose bullets and crank some better power out of them.

Not really practical, but if you think you'll have fun shooting/owning it why not.

But if you just want to impulse and might possibly sell it off later, I don't think you'll have a easy time selling until the guy like you self comes along and says like you "eh why not".

                  FWIW.

It could be practical if you were going to hunt with it frequently. I suggested a 30-30 Contender to a friend who hunts, as a back up gun to his 300 Win Mag. Shorter range shots with less damage to meat, or a smaller animal where a 300 would be overkill.

Problem with socal is there really is no hunting to speak of.

Exactly. Even the little there is I looked into the process to start hunting, it has more paperwork than trying to become a politician. The hoops you need to jump through to get ready for a single season is ridiculous. My CCW application process was easier.

I guess hunting humans requires less paperwork/effort than to hunt deer

I've got the 45-70 one with the 10.5 barrel, 18.5" overall. (I got it in a ppt the same day my brother got the lever 45-70 from Cool Custard).
Let me tell you! That thing is so nice, the quality of it is really high for the price tag. It is very over built even for 45-70, so you don't have to really worry about hot 30-30 loads because my understanding is that they are the same frames with different barrels and cylinders (aside from the short cylinder ones). And being an almost 5lbs gun it soaks up the recoil. After holding it up and practicing my aim I can steadily hold it now, just gotta strengthen those muscles in your arm. Now all other handguns seem to float in my hands, everything else is like a feather! I shoot the same loads for the rifle through the revolver, just don't lock your elbows! I'm sure you would be pleased with the quality and workmanship of the piece alone. As far as the caliber...pick one that you will use, it is a looker but it's built to be a shooter more.

Never seen that but I like it! I like impractical, huge handguns for some reason. Overkill is cool.

You're not crazy. I have a BFR .45-70 identical to V8MERC124's and I gotta tell ya it is a hoot to shoot. I have put some fairly stout lever gun loads through it, and it can be pretty snappy with a 405gn JFP, it is controllable as the gun weighs a ton. I think you will have a blast with the 30-30.

Stupid people don't know they are stupid. Because they are stupid. They will follow evil geniuses and do their bidding, because they are stupid.

Really super stupid people look up to, and follow stupid people like they were geniuses, because to them, they are. Unfortunately the reality of it is, that doesn't make stupid people any smarter.

That right there is the root cause to most problems in the world.
