Glock Gen 3 vs Gen 4

I've read up on the single-shot exemption, and how it can be use to lawfully purchase and own a Gen 4 Glock in California. But this probably adds to the price.

It it worth it, or should I just stick with a Gen 3? I'm not looking for anything more than home defense or possibly CCW, depending on how the permitting process goes.

I've even read that there are some complaints with the Gen 4, and maybe the Gen 3 is a better choice. The biggest advantage I see with the Gen 4 is resale value if the new restriction goes into effect this January, and if the restriction actually works. Thanks in advance. Sorry about my user name, but I am a Democrat, so the name seemed kind of funny to me.

I had both and liked the Gen 4 more. It's slimmer, seems lighter, and has less recoil. Or at least I think it felt like it has less recoil.

I think Glock has solved the early FTF problems. Also IMO the resale value of a Gen 4 Glock is not going to go up significantly due to the SSE going away due to the fact that there are so many out there. It's not like a Sig P938. So I wouldn't base my decision on that.

The slimmer grip along with the improved texture is why I prefer the Gen 4. Also for some reason, I find that I'm more accurate with the Gen 4 9mm guns.

You will pay more for Gen 4 Glocks. Somewhere around $650 OTD compared to a gen 3 somewhere around $560 OTD.

          That $90ish buys you:

          1) an updated recoil spring assembly (definitely helps in 10mm, feels better than a gen 3 in .40, and pretty much the same as a gen 3 in 9mm)
          2) more aggressive stock grip texturing. This feels MUCH better than a stock gen 3 IMO.
          3) ability to change backstraps. Gen 3s feel fine to me, but then I tried a gen 4 without a backstrap and fell in love. Some people like the larger, beaver tail backstraps as well. Personal preference really.
          4) ability to switch to a left handed mag release. Obviously most beneficial if you are actually left handed.
          5) 3 mags instead of 2. If you go gen 4, make sure you get 3 mags. If they try to give you less, they are trying to make money by selling you the gun for full price then sell the mags on the side. 10 round glock mags aren't so difficult to come by that a store should have a problem switching out standard caps with 10 rounders.

Complaints about gen 4s... maybe when they first came out. I have a 19 and a 34, both manufactured this year, and zero problems. The 9mm ones were known for have ejection issues, too.

Check with the county that you reside in for CCW requirements/restrictions. Some counties do not allow a CCW firearm to be SSE.

Is a gen 4 worth it over a gen 3? I think so, but that's a personal preference. Is a gen 3 going to work just fine? Of course. Nothing wrong with a gen 3.

Lastly, both democrat and republican politicians are corrupt. They both tend to run America into the ground. I am glad that even though you are considering yourself a democrat, you are not so closed minded that you agree with EVERYTHING democratic politicians tend to think (i.e. guns are scary) without thinking about it yourself.

Both feel the same to me, not much different in recoil and handling.

              +1

I'm also more accurate with the Gen 4 for some reason. A buddy told me it could be because of the new recoil spring...

The new grey finish on the Gen 4 is terrible, it scratches and wears unlike any other Glock finish I've seen. I have Gen 3s with many, many, many thousands of rounds and time in and out of kydex holsters that look new. My G17 Gen4 that is a few range trips and a couple weeks old already has several very pronounced scratches.

Other than the finish scratching easily, functionally I like the improvements.

Well since you're a Libtard, buy the gen 3, and give me the difference of the 4. I mean, you libs are all about giving away other people's money...(in this case, other's, being you).

for me, the grip difference between a gen 3 and gen 4 glock 19 is night and day. the gen 4 with no backstrap fits perfectly in my hand. its really a matter of personal preference. If the grip on a gen 3 feels perfect for you than stick with gen 3.

No, I'll just take out a loan in your name so I can get a free government gun, and your grand kids will get the bill someday.

Seriously, the D's and the R's have both over-spent irresponsibly.

Why beat up on the noob? What you say is generally true, but maybe he just drank to excess the night he picked his username.

Anyway: I like the gen3 better, I don't like the gen4 sandpaper dimples.

Current production Gen4 Glocks are one of the best guns you can buy.

They're relatively cheep in comparison to other guns, have suburb reliability and are habitually getting fist-size groups at 25 yards (and in most cases better accuracy than 1911s).
Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.

Gen 3 is better. Gen 4 will never be as reliable. My buddy just bought a gen 4 and has ftf on nearly every shot.
