    G34,35 or 41(Gen4)? Zev/Glockworx or Salient?

Ok....I have BIG aspirations of getting into 3-Gun and other competition types. Although we have G19,23, many fine 1911's and others, I would like to get a Gen4 version of Glock G34,35 or 41 which one and why? My first choice has been the 34 for obvious reasons, 9mm soft shooting and reasonable ammo prices. My G19 & 23 have had much Glockworx mods and shoot both very well with an edge to to 23 which I have been shooting for over 15 years. Now the second issue, Glockworx or Salient? I have a great relationship with Glockworx and nothing but success with them, any reason I should consider Salient. Either model I choose will be hand delivered for extensive mods. BIG INVESTMENT HERE so would really appreciate opinions and advice. Thank you all!

Zev suggested a G17L a few days ago so why not take their recommendation?

Or you can shoot .40 for major.
Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.

I own all three except my 34 & 35 are gen3's and the 41 is obviously a gen4. I like the optional grips on the 41 only because I can make it feel more like my full size grip 20 & 21. I haven't fondled gen4 9mm/40 sized guns yet but if they don't make the grip larger there really isn't a reason to go with the gen4. I have added hogue handall slip-on grips on my 34 & 35 to help add bulk to the grip.

If I were in your shoes I would pick up a 35. If you are used to the recoil impulse of the 23 and shoot it better than your 19, you will probably do the same with the both the longer slide models. I am the same way. I definitely shoot my 35 better than the 34 or 41. It would be awesome if Glock makes a long slide 10mm, my Glock 20 has been my favorite model lately.

I've shot Glocks by Glockworx and Taran Butler, but none by Salient (just the Benelli M2). Tough choice, but as HopetonBrown stated Taran is cheaper and the quality is there. I'm sure Salient's quality is up there too.

My choice would be the 34 first and then the 35. The 41 would be my last choice. The 35 will give you more variety of divisions to shoot in for USPSA shooting (major power factor anyways), but you can do the same with the 34 shooting minor.

My suggestion is get the 34 and shoot it as is with maybe a change of sights only. Shoot a dozen matches or so and get a feel of what you would like and shoot other people's Glocks that have been modified.

FYI.....The Enos forum is a wealth of information on competition shooting. I believe it was there where I read Taran told a buyer he can get a better trigger pull on a Gen 3 than a Gen 4.

        Good Luck!!

Well first of all for 3 gun, it's the long range rifle shots (to 400 yards) that are most important, followed by the ability to load the shotgun really, really quickly and the handgun is the least important. You will not win any 3 gun mach with the handgun. There is no major/minor in three gun so a 9mm is all you need. Scoring is just 2 hits anywhere on paper or 1 in the A zone. What you will need is a good optic on your rifle, budget at least $800 and a good trigger, say $250. Don't let anyone tell you they are shooting 3 gun with a Barska $100 scope, well, they may have shot a couple of stages, but those cheap scopes will loose the zero eventually. For the shotgun, get a bunch of shell caddies, or speed tubes, if you decide to go open. Practice the heck outa reloading. Make sure the shotgun shoots slugs to point of aim at 75 yards. And division is based on any one of the 3 guns used, so if you have an Open pistol, say a G17L with a dot, and a standard AR iron sighted and a pump shotgun, you are going to get slaughtered. Best, best, best thing you can do, is start shooting 3 gun with what you have. Your G19 will be just fine. After a couple of dozen matches, you will know which division you want to be in and what gear you want.

You can run you G19 in USPSA, although a G17 or a G34 is better for that game. I shot with a guy Saturday who was running a borrowed G19 Limited Minor, and kicked everybodies but. He was also a high A class shooter, so he could have been running a HiPoint and still kicked but.

The fundamentals of pistol shooting far outweigh any magic gun you think you might need. Stance, grip, sight picture and trigger control. Then for competition, movement and transitions become most important. Then spend the money you saved by not buying a magic gun and take competition shooting lessons.

Thank you everyone for the advice and especially to Leethe4th for your in depth post. Running a FN SLP MK1 Competition(yes the disco blue one) and a Noveske custom build AR with S3G trigger and have Elcan Specter DR 1X4 and ACOG Ta-31. I'm very confident and proficient with both the G23 & 19 so will take your advice and run that until my skill develops. My Gun Club where we will be running maxes out at 200yds so hopefully my optics we have will be GTG. I couldn't agree more that training training training and participation will only provide the best performance. Thank you again everyone for the help.

How does one send a Glock to Taran Butler? Went on his website nothing there about custom Glock work.

He is called TaranTactical now. They make really nice 140/170mm mag extensions and the best/smallest/brightest fiber optic sights, well, along with all Taran's other stuff. Because he is the winniest 3 gunner in history, his products are based on competition experiences.

Either optic will work. I would zero at 200 yards for your range then. That will give you about a 3" window out to 235 yards. zero at 37/200 with about 1.5" high at 125 yards, not including scope offset with is really important at contact distance.

Doesn't change that much between 55/62 grain bullets at that range.

slightly off topic but with so many people doing custom glocks, what are some of the big/bigger names out there doing M&Ps?

i see bowie, aeti, and maybe robar (not listed on site, had to google). 10-8 as well but their site specifically states that they will NOT do custom work for M&Ps.

Everything Lee mentioned above is correct, although I'd say that the Load 2 is becoming the most dominant loading method. It's quicker to come up to speed with it vs the weakhand load 4.
BTW, the most interesting part of your post was the BIG aspirations part. Just curious.. what does that mean to you? In it to win it or just shooting for fun?

                            Salient does custom m&p packages.

I might also throw another idea at you, look at the fully built/already done TTI Glocks. Ive been in their shop and seen them being built and the racks of them already finished, very nice guns.
